I was hesitant to do the glass recall work for the windshield and the panoramic sun roof because neither my windshield or roof was causing any issues for me. And there was the chance of something happening -- like the horror stories on this forum about scratched glass, torn upholstery, etc -- during the recall work. However, the tire rotation (10k mile service) was due, OTA 1.7..1 was stuck for me, and the customer satisfaction program software update was available, so I made the service appointment with the Ford dealership -- Fairview Ford -- from whom I bought the car.
Turned my Mach-E in on Monday and got a rental. Fairview outsourced the recall glass work to a 3rd-party glass specialist. Picked up the car on Thursday afternoon and everything seemed OK. The update was reportedly done, the stuck OTA could not be addressed till March as expected, and the windshield and roof appeared to be normal. However, when putting stuff back into my car in my garage, I noticed loud clicking noises when opening and closing the driver's door that was definitely not there before.
Looking at where the sound came from, I saw a weird gap in trim next to the dashboard on the driver side. In fact, that piece of trim was obviously not fastened in place like its counterpart on the passenger side. (See attached photo) I'm thinking that in either taking the headliner down for the panoramic roof or getting to the windshield involved manipulating that cowl trim, which was damaged in the process.
I sourced the affected part as KICK PANEL TRIM (LJ8Z5802345AA) with CLIPS (W716053S439 and W717758S437M) for MSRP $37.00. So not expensive for parts, but replacing it might get hairy if I have to get past the dash. I'll be the first to admit I'm not the handiest person around either....then again, why should I be the one trying to do the repair work?
As the damage was done with my vehicle formally in their possession as part of a Ford recall, I'm thinking that that Fairview Ford needs to fix this.
I'd appreciate any input or thoughts you might have on this situation...
