Hi all

Update from Ford UK on the infamous "Failed OTA Updates"

After almost a month of failed OTA updates, and three weeks of chasing various groups within Ford UK to no avail, I spoke to the Mach-E Team yesterday and said if I didn't hear from a senior Ford representative by close of business today, I would invoke "Plan B" ?

I received the following email this afternoon .........

I understand you have spoken with one of my colleagues and requested for someone senior to make contact with you.

I have reviewed the case you have raised with us and I have checked your vehicle and can confirm that all of the software is up to date. The eCall recall has been successfully completed. As the vehicle was updated by the dealer, it does not require any of the OTA updates deployed to date and will not need any OTA updates up to and including Ford Power-Up 1.3.0. The System Updates screen will show that your vehicle is up to date and will not make any reference to Ford Power-Up.

The next OTA you will receive will be Ford Power Up 1.4.0, due later this month.

We discovered that we had been trying to deploy the first OTA updates to vehicles after the dealer had updated it. Your vehicle correctly rejected these updates due to it already being up to date.

We are taking steps to prevent this deployment from happening again and have checked that you have not been sent an OTA update since July 27th. We are also taking steps to suppress the failure notifications in these circumstances, and this will be implemented by end-August.

I hope this assists you, should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the team.

It was really good to finally have a response from someone who can explain what the problem has been, what they are doing to remedy the situation, and when it will be resolved ??

It's just slightly frustrating for all of us affected that it's taken so much time and effort by us to find this out ...... it's been said so many times before on this forum and the others - communication!

I hope this clarifies the position for everyone who has had this issue ?

Cheers
David

PS: and "Plan B" is still available for the next time ?

Hello Stinky Minky

My MME took just over a month to arrive at the dealers from landing at Antwerp to me collecting it tomorrow.

I know what you mean about Range Rover servicing costs. I"m sure I have paid for a mechanic second home in Florida with mine. Actually looking forward to my next service in two years time!

Are you trading in with the dealer? I was surprised to be offered more from them than with We buy any car. Thank you Philip Schofield.

i am keeping an eye on my trade in options. love the lack of cars it’s pushed the price through the roof.

thank you for the info. I can work with a month, 3 is cutting it a bit tight.

I’m very excited, love this forum. I’m tracking it now on the tracker and i keep trying to activate the car, but so far no one’s accepted.

I am intrigued by this part of the reply from Ford. I had the ecall update done by my dealer on the 5th July and on the 6th July I received notification than an OTA update had been successfully carried out.
Weird

That’s good news! Your perseverance has paid off. ?

Although it shouldn’t have needed all that effort to get this information.

Thanks once again for all your efforts.

Yes, my trouble is I've got fat fingers! ?
Me too. I had to get my wife to put it in….so to speak!?

It’s a very tight fit especially in the warmer weather when the plastic swells.

Maybe try running it under cold water or sticking it in the fridge. ?ā€ā™‚

Interesting thing has just happened. I was under the impression that when your car was locked and charging the charge cable was locked into the car and can't be removed. I also thought that by pressing the unlock button in the charge port would release/unlock the cable ONLY when the car was unlocked. Apparently not. I have just done a public charge and just as an exercise thought I would see if you could remove cable with car locked. It would seem you can. I made sure my car was locked, still on charge with my key away from the car. I pressed the release button and hey presto it released the cable from the car. So much for being secure. I could have quite easily released the cable, unplugged it from the car and charger and walked away with it, never to be seen again.
I have just tested this. I left my car on charge overnight connected to my podpoint.

Just now I left key in house and went out to car and pressed the button, the cable wouldn't unlock.

Got key and returned with it in pocket, the button allowed me to release the cable.

So theft of cable can only happen if the key is present!

My key wasn't in my pocket at the time but maybe the range of the sensor is greater than I imagined and I didn't leave it far enough away. I will try again and leave the key further away next time

I've done 800 miles+ and reset the trip info and I'm also showing 315 miles. I've been getting 3.7 miles/kwh so far, so quite happy with that.
Just got my ER RWD last Tuesday and was delivered with 335 range, since then I have only managed 300 on next charge. Does anyone know if there is something we need to do to get the charge range up. Got the same dealer blurb about it will settle in 2/3 weeks!! I am only charging on a 7kw charger so will be interesting to see on my trip this Friday when I hook up to 150KW charger.

The car needs to learn your driving style and the sort of journeys you make.

The mileage shown is purely a guesstimate and you should just disregard it. After all how many ICE cars have range meters? It's pure fiction at best.

The important figures are the %age of battery and your consumption in m/kwh

That would equate to 308 miles if the battery was at 100% and you drive the car until it stops- which you never will I hope!

Yes your miles/kWh figures are much more useful. I've done nearly 1,000 miles at an average of 3.9m/kWh in my ER RWD, which would give over 340 miles from 100%-0%.

Anyone noticed a rattle coming from inside the boot? Only happens over rough roads or potholes. Think I’ve established it’s coming from the plastic around the window as shown in the video but not 100% sure. Only had the car a week so not the best…
Anyone else had to deal with it etc?

Well aren't I the numpty. Charge cable does lock. Although I locked my car obviously didn't move the key far enough away so the car was still sensing it. Just plugged it in at home, left key indoors and hey presto, the cable won't unlock. Phew
