Technically you're not modifying the car - your just plugging into its systems (lots of grey areas in that) and also openpilot does have eye tracking the same as Ford, but you're right, only bluecruise is government certified for hands off driving.Yes, it sounds very impressive. My only concern is that I’m not sure any insurance company in the UK would cover you if you mentioned you had modified your vehicle to use it. If you didn’t mention it to them then you almost certainly wouldn’t be covered in an accident. Also, the Ford Mach-E is currently the only vehicle approved by UK authorities to allow hands-free driving.
From an insurance standpoint - I would say that it's still just a driver assistance tool - much like bluecruise, and responsibility always lies with you as the driver.
