Yes, it sounds very impressive. My only concern is that I’m not sure any insurance company in the UK would cover you if you mentioned you had modified your vehicle to use it. If you didn’t mention it to them then you almost certainly wouldn’t be covered in an accident. Also, the Ford Mach-E is currently the only vehicle approved by UK authorities to allow hands-free driving.
Technically you're not modifying the car - your just plugging into its systems (lots of grey areas in that) and also openpilot does have eye tracking the same as Ford, but you're right, only bluecruise is government certified for hands off driving.
From an insurance standpoint - I would say that it's still just a driver assistance tool - much like bluecruise, and responsibility always lies with you as the driver.

Any change to a vehicle beyond factory spec is unfortunately considered a modification which if not mentioned to an insurer could cause the insurance to be void or be classed as underinsured reducing any subsequent payout. Even racing stripes can add 22% to an insurance policy. See https://www.romeroinsurance.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Romero-Modified-Vehicles-Guide-2019.pdf

Took Spark-E for the 2 year service today. I also asked them to look at the mirror projector lamps which have been degrading for months now, and also to activate the software switch to allow frunk opening from the Sync screen.

Well they managed the service, apparently there wasn’t time to replace the projector lamps (even though they left the car in the car park for 5 hours doing nothing). And I have to go back for a lot of software updates they couldn’t apply OTA, I didn’t think this was an on demand thing, they just get scheduled.

so I have to wait now until mid-November as this is the next slot with a courtesy car, and they might have it for 2 days.

same level of customer support ? - didn’t even wash it.

Feel you pain - I’ve just booked mine in to have some stuff done, and was told “we can do xxxx, but then if that doesn’t work you can just bring it back in again”. “Oh really?” was my response.

Dear Ford Dealerships - how about you staff & schedule your service dept properly so I don’t have to keep taking time off work to make repeat trips at your convenience?

I got a fixed price booking via the Ford web site - around £160.

this didn't include brake fluid change but they did wash it.

I am not convinced they did much.

Anyone else feel like Rishi sold is down the river by moving the goalposts for EV ownership ?
Sold Ford down the road river as it has trashed their competitive advantage against other manufacturers who haven't closed a load of ICE factories down.

Ford put a lot of their eggs in a basket that promised a lot of EV business as the countdown to 2030 onwards approached.

There's actually not much changed- the devil is in the detail (as always)

By 2030 makers will have to sell 8 EV's for every 2 ICE cars made and sold. This is a sliding scale from 2025, so every year less and less ice cars will be built.

Now put yourself in a makers shoes- you've spent lots of money and time designing, testing and productionising ev's. What would you do as 2030 comes around? I doubt any will be interested in making and selling ICE cars after about 2027... Or if they did they would cost a huge amount of money so none could be sold.

Politics guys- let's be seen to make a change to benefit people whilst in the background ensuring the agenda is continued!

Hi All

Been a while since I was on here, mind you been a while since I had my Mache!

In at the dealership for 8 weeks now :(.

had the dreaded contactor issue, now worries I thought I know what it is, called ahead to local dealer who were very helpful told me it would a couple of weeks as their two master EV tech were on holiday. OK fair enough, not great but ok.

Got a call the following seeking saying they had hooked it up and it also needed a 12v battery.

Now follow the ridiculous, there was no part number to order for a 12v battery, the old part number had been removed and no new one but they were chasing ford….

Another week no update still no part number

I raised a case with Ford customer relations, there are on it, few I thought!

6 weeks later and constant chasing, they have a new part number, hooray!

But there is no eta as the old ones were manufactured in the UK and the new ones in Germany…

The saga continues, I will let you know how it turns out!

Let us know the new part number whenever they figure that out.

Thanks,

Not sure about this, I’m personally happy overall with my EV lot despite Bozo Johnno stealing my EV grant he promised but that’s to my credit not his/theirs and how I got set up with my first EV.

It’ll take 50 years to get over all him and his ilk have done over the last 13 years if we ever do IMO but the market will take care of the EV situation.

All the befits and concessions of EV ownership were always going to disappear and they are gradually going.

I doubt Little Britain will influence things very much and can only follow the world’s main dominant markets now, it will be the global market that dictates the pace of EV production & ownership and the purging of ICE vehicles from the market eventually.

Charge providers have a developing market and will expand on charge stations as filling station use falls; I see loads of installations as I travel around so the ill-informed press and EV bashers’ jaundiced propaganda they peddled about infrastructure is already way behind the curve.

Local authorities & home owners will take care of home/on-street charging.
