2 bottles of wine later and a (semi)sensible discussion with the boss ( plus a few nice comments on here) has brought me to my senses and made me realise that I love this car, I want this car and am prepared to wait for as long as it takes to take delivery of this car. The way Ford has treated us all throughout this whole process is in my opinion nothing short of abysmal. The annoying thing is that they have a car that looks great and has got amazing potential. I just wish it was in my stable and not still in Mexico. I don't want anything else as much as I want this. I'm staying

Agreed. I love it too, that's why I've got 2 on order ??. I'll take whichever one comes first. I do, although, think that Ford should come clean with us about everything. What I have been told has been proved to be"economical with the truth" at very best. I do think that the early preorderers (Pre Covid lock downs) shoud be offered a little more than a pair of headphones as "compensation". All post lockdown pre-orders were aware of the production delays when they ordered.

Anyway, we are totally in the hands of Ford but agree, if cars are there, and there is room on a vessel, they should ship and deliver. They are losing money by keeping them in. Mexico.

also... who would want the depreciation and residual value on ICE cars now? My Discovery has depreciated £5k more than I anticipated.
My Alfa Romeo 4C has now started to appreciate. Looks like I've got a real investment on my hand there. Never selling unless I have to.

At least there will be at least 2 red ones driving about as I’ve ordered one!??
Looks like I'm the only person in the UK to order a grabber blue FE. I love the look of it. Probably won't end up with it though as everything is pointing to the Carbonised Grey order coming first.

Look at it this way, you will be unique. I didn't think many would go for the black but it seems every man and his dog is going for that colour
Yes, I like the black but because it's the only "free" colour I too felt it would be the most popular. I thought red and white would be popular also and so opted for infinite blue which does appear, depending on lighting, either to be tasty or fairly drab.

Hey, I’m new to the forum!

I went to see the pre production one last year when it was on tour which was brilliant to see in real life. The lease company through work have literally just added it to their stock so I could order ;-)

I’ve ordered mine last week - Ordered Rapid Red, SR RWD, June delivery - hoping for sooner like everyone else! Fingers crossed.

Just phoned Dagenham, the person was very helpful. Said they would be firming up finance early next month and when he gets the VIN he would be emailing them to me.
I ordered with Trust Ford at Dagenham too and have had some good contact with them since confirming my order in December. They did the finance application over the phone at the start of January, although having confirmed it, I’m still waiting for the paperwork to come through for signing. They sent me the 11 digits they had access to of the VIN code this week when I asked.

Following recent comments on the thread I’ve double checked and can see my order page on the Ford website has updated to ‘In Production’. On the forum tracker tool the production date I have was 2nd December 2020, so maybe it’s parked up in Mexico waiting to come to Dagenham! Black ER RWD if anyone want to know.

Unfortunately depreciation will hit EVs just as hard if not harder as fresh new EVs are coming out all the time and manufacturing costs will lower as time goes on, newer fresher cheaper EVs will mean that early adopters will be hit with higher depreciation
Certainly not the case to date. Many have been waiting years for their cars and supply side is limited by battery OEM’s. With new ICE cars being banned in 2030 residential values will be far worst for ICE.

if you look at EV residuals they are far better even with improvements of battery tech.

^This

we are looking at expanding our second car and originally wanted a Disco/Disco Sport/Defender - but in 5 years when the ban hits I would hate to think how much they would be worth

So for the price of a ICE BMW X3 I'm getting an all Electric Mustang that carries the kids and will be future proofed for the next 10 years
Exactly. Soon I won’t even be able to drive my discovery in to the centre of Bristol. I just hope I can sell it at the end of lockdown.

Yes, by the time we get to the 2030 ban on new car ICE sales, it will be getting much more restrictive and expensive to use ICE cars, so that will not help the resale values. Later this year plug-in hybrids will lose the congestion charge exemption in London (another reason to switch from my Outlander PHEV to the Mach E).

Lots of question marks too about the future cost of fuel (think impact of fuel duty) as HM Treasury will start losing income as people switch to EVs, and that will have to be made up somehow! The year after year freeze on fuel duty will end soon for sure!

It will all be about petrol/diesel price inflation! Never mind the debate about depreciation which we can only estimate/guess at.

It will be dressed up as a "green" tax to encourage moving to Electric.

HMRC Will definitely raise BIK on Full EV's but it will happen gradually. Still worth it short term. Company Leasing seems to be the way forward for this batch then there's no need to worry about depreciation and you get the full tax benefit.

Company car tax on petrol/diesel cars is now exorbitant. And tax on personal petrol was working out at just under £300 a month for me.

Exactly. Soon I won’t even be able to drive my discovery in to the centre of Bristol. I just hope I can sell it at the end of lockdown.

I think this is an interesting conundrum.

Clearly there are pressures on petrol and diesel cars. Emission zones and their potential expansion, the changing tax regime on cars, societal issues and the impending ban on new car ICE sales from 2030.

Manufacturers will have to make the change in production well in advance of the 2030 date otherwise factory lines and engine plants would be redundant assets. So actually the end of new car sales of ICE vehicles will come sooner rather than later.

What might this mean for used vehicle sales. Well, for BEV’s although new BEV’s will be better than their predecessors so have new ICE cars been and this has not impacted the used car market as the buyers of new and second hand cars are not necessarily the same.
Clearly a general reduction in new BEV prices would potentially impact. However an expanding charging network might mean more people are encouraged to make the change.
Tax regimes will have an impact as well as emission zones.

Regarding ICE used car sales. Petrol and diesel cars will stay on our roads indefinitely or at least until petrol and diesel stations cease to exist. Although with the need for serving commercial vehicles I imagine this is some way off.
There will be a demand from the classic car enthusiasts, die hard petrol heads and those that find an ICE car suits their need better despite restrictions, be it frequent fast long journeys, daily work, heavy loads, towing, limited ability for home charging.
Additionally many cars new bought now will be exhausted by 2030.
The demand for rarer used ICE vehicles may actually increase, particularly for low mileage prestige marques. Witness the prices of ‘ordinary’ 30 year old classic cars.
I am not saying any of this is fact. Just prophesying. However I do believe that the the future of BEV and ICE used car prices is not necessarily cut and dried. Clearly if someone comes up with a low cost 1000mile range battery that fits in a shoe box all bets are off. I certainly did not predict 10 years ago we would be where we are today.

Personally we will hedge our bets. We will keep the Q5 for those awkward or long or urgent trips and to carry a roof box when needed and have a Star White X for all the rest.
