Well, Ford, the new "Distance To Empty" algorithm doesn't work . . .

At 100% charge my MME used to show about 270 mile range. A month ago it dropped to 215. On 1/21 I got update 3.6.2 "improving the accuracy of D to E". Now at 100% charge it shows around 290 miles. That's where it was Saturday morning at the start of a 199 mile trip. When I got home, it was down to 11 miles left!

The algorithm may be better. But the history was wiped. No matter the algorithm though, it’s only a guess. Never to be relied upon.

It bases its guess to a degree on the past. If you have been driving around town for weeks and now do an interstate run, it will be overly optimistic as EVs get worse range at highway speed than in town.

And sadly all the GOM complainers got what they wanted, a more optimistic estimate.

It's completely broken by 3.6.2 OTA in my car. I have driven over 4,000 miles since then, it always shows 240 miles at 90% SOC now regardless of recent driving history, on the rare occasions when it charged to 100% it showed 270-275 miles. The estimate given in FordPass when plugging in to charge is actually fairly accurate, but in the end the car's fixed numbers always take over.

Perhaps they just adjusted the range displayed to match EPA values like Telsa does? Personally I liked the semi-conservative old GOM. Haven't had enough experience driving long distance after 3.6.2 yet, but....

My GOM was showing about 235 miles on 90% charge the other day. I drove 42 miles and the GOM now says 182 miles (53 miles less). It was about 45° outside and that was a nice mix of highway and city driving miles.

It's broken... It's not just a reset like before, or at least it doesn't re-adjust quickly, like before. Something has changed and I haven't got an OTA in 6 months or more. I get 250 miles on my GOM every day when it's 30 degrees out. I don't even get 250 in the summer!!

My take is that everyone complains about cold weather range so they just said f-it. Show unrestricted full range at start and just deduct 1.25 for every one driven.

This has been something I've noticed for about a month now. I drive over 3k miles a month so it's just ignoring my drive style and climate. I was part of the EA program for Intelligent Range and it was reverted. At least in my case, I have a feeling that this started happening when it was reverted. With Intelligent range and a 100% charge I was showing about 165 on the GOM. So it's a huge difference.

For everyone who says it shouldn't be trusted, I fundamentally disagree. You should be able to trust it. People plan their trips around how far they can go. In my case, it's an 85 mile difference. I don't want to hear, but in ICE it's not right either ... in ICE there's a gas station at every corner that takes 5 minutes to fill up. Many places only have chargers every 50 miles. There's no comparison, and people really need to stop drawing that line.

It's kinda pathetic that after 3 years being on the market they still can't figure out range. I'm not sure why people are still defending Ford's lack of brain cells.

Went on a road trip in below freezing temperatures. GOM said 290 miles of range when I started with 100%, only got like 200

Resetting the range calculation - GOM - is not the only thing affected by the latest OTA. Our profiles were inactive for several days while the guest profile was active. :(
Also, the number of preset radio station rows was reset from 6 to 3.
Other preferences may be reset.

OTAs need to begin with saving all customizations and preferrences then end with restoring these. Come on Ford, this is basic to any software push update process.

Yep. Having the same issues. It's a fricking pain in the butt. For example today I'm doing about a 400 mile round trip. My first stop is 75 miles away. The car will show about 224 when I leave and will be around 110 when I get to the first stop. If I went by the GOM, I could just skip this stop and go to stop 2, which is about another 75 miles away. But I'd be lucky to make it to the second stop. I've now taken to just multiplying the GOM by 66 percent and that's fairly accurate. For example, that gives me a range of about 147 miles, which is almost spot on for this time of year. But what a pain.

I've found that the in-vehicle Nav is still giving accurate mileage if you put a route in, it is calculating correctly. Apple Maps EV routing though is being VERY conservative after the GOM reset. It wanted me to stop and charge for 5 minutes on a 90 mile trip even though I was gonna get home with 20% charge just fine. A big missing feature in Apple Maps EV routing is being able to delete suggested chargers, there's no way to do that so it just keeps rerouting you to the charger if you don't stop at it, really annoying stuff.

When you charge to 100, it bases your GOM from historical data.

However, if all of a sudden you go on a road trip uphill, you're not going to get that range..just like in an ICE.

If you want to make it all in one charge, then the key is to know what mi/kwh you need to achieve that, and then adjust your driving conditions to try and meet that. Reduce climate controls, slow down.

Otherwise, drive it on a road trip, and if you're lower than you thought, stop by a charging station.
If you're doing a day trip like that, no need to pop it up to 80, just stop for 5 minutes and get the charge you need to get home.

I am surprised to see everyone posting this. We are fully up to date and our GoM is as pessimistic as ever. Showed 165mi range at 90% charge when it was extra cold the other day and usually shows a little south of 200 in the winter, which it is relatively easy to beat unless you are driving 80mph.

I have never had an issue with the GOM. It shows a range much lower now in the Winter than it was during the Summer, as to be expected. But it goes down pretty steadily and is not super sensitive to some highway driving or some AC/heater use. I previously had a Bolt, where the range would instantly drop 20 miles when you turned the AC on. Or would go into free fall mode when I got up to 70mph on the highway. I prefer the more impervious GOM from the MME even if it might be less accurate in "real time."
