My 2019 KonaEV had so many problems 2 transmissions (GRU) 1 Motor, two 12v batteries, battery cooling fan, Twice charge door, 10 TSBs, and of course the BMS recalls trying to fix the traction battery that eventually turned into a traction battery recall to replace the whole thing.

Yes, there are way more issues with other cars than me using my BuyBack funds to purchase a MME
Thank you for reminding everyone that cars are complex and difficult to make. All manufacturers have issues and defects. The amount of “I can’t believe ford would do this” on this forum from non-MME owners is quite tiresome. It’s difficult to make cars and get humans and robots to perfectly assemble 15000 components. Certainly, this news is not welcomed but to say this car has more problems than other cars? That is not really fair. Everyone has problems. There is definitely a video out there of a Model Y with no glass roof 3 miles from where they took ownership.
Ford is trying to take care of the issues and I guarantee that if they could produce perfect vehicles for every single customer, they would. so instead of bashing them, let’s try and work with ford to make this vehicle (and all EVs) successful. My kids are counting on reduced environmental impact from us for their kids.

Sucks to hear but totally expected after reading the Canadian recall. I'm not taking my car in for them to rip apart. No thanks.

In my experience out of the many cars I've owned, often if they have to take something apart, especially interior trim pieces, something is not going to be put back properly and even damaged that you won't find until much later on. Most recent case in point, couple of the under hood trims fasteners broke when they did the updates on my MME that requires a 12V backup source to be plugged in.
I had the entire pano replaced. If professionally done, you can't tell any difference, and in fact I trust the replacement more that the Ford line workers apparently.

I do now wonder if the wind noise and notiecable gap around the top fo the winshield in the early builds, is a symptom of this problem. . .

I don’t understand how a company like Ford can put out a car with the number of issues this one does. I understand the need to get it to market but what testing do they actually go thru before they decide to sell it to us?

do They actually care what the consumer thinks? Are we just guinea pigs, like we are for Microsoft and Apple when they release new software?

Are American car companies worse than the Japanese and Europeans when it comes to first year cars?

just sad.
well there is a good reason for the old adage, "don't buy the first model year of anything". Of course I generally ignore that and plow on...

Every vehicle I have owned with a model year 2000 or later has had at least one recall, two of those have already had three recalls. Some are serious, some are not. I have had two Takata airbags replaced, and just found out I have one more of those to be done, on a 2008 model year Saturn Sky. The driver side was replaced several years ago on that vehicle, now the passenger side also has to be replaced.

Windshield plus glass roof, the Mach E is now up to 2 recalls, right about my average.

Wow. That sounds like a lot of vehicles. Maybe it applies to all of the US cars manufactured so far? My guess is we will all be asked to take it in to get it inspected and the dealer will decide if either recall applies to any particular vehicle. This is quite upsetting to me.
According to article:

"In both cases, documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that all of the vehicles within the production range of Feb. 24, 2020, to July 18, 2021, have the defect."

The typo is the end date. According to Ford documents, all vehicles produced through June 18, 2021 are impacted.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/FORD/MUSTANG%2520MACH-E/SUV/RWD#recalls

Those earlier builds from February 2020 through roughly October 2020 were test builds, not sold to retail customers.
Interesting. A lot of reports just say “between February 24 and June 18, 2021”, which implies the start date is 2021. I guess attention to detail isn’t high on every auto journalist’s list.

To be fair, I missed that detail when reading through the NHTSA ODI documents last night. Your post above is what prompted me to re-read with more attention to details.
I’m still thinking (and hoping), that the effected vehicles will require an inspection first, to determine if a fix is required. It’s just hard to believe that so many cars would have this defect.

So those of us with earlier builds may be in the clear.
I don’t think so. The documents on the NTHSA website seem to say “February 24, 2020” through June 28, 2021. That’s all of us early early builds. We will see if there is a correction moving forward. There’s also a possibility it’ll expand as well.

Well, I guess this is one benefit of Ford having such a screwed up scheduling system. My production date hasn’t happened yet so my car isn’t in this window. That does mean that Ford won’t screw something else up that will need to be fixed…

I have a good news story about windshield replacement. Mine was cracked in the lower left corner by a loose stone thrown up by a truck on an interstate in May. I had to wait 6 weeks for the replacement part to get to SafeLite, but the good news is that they did a superb job with the replacement in 60 minutes. I've had no problems since.

I do think the original auto glass was unusually brittle based on what happened to my windshield.

Some random thoughts / reflections based on this:

- My dealer is completely out of the glass-replacement business. They told me at the time that any issues involving auto glass would always be outsourced to SafeLite.
- I don't know if this applies to the panoramic roof, too.
- I agree with others on this thread about not wanting to have anyone messing with the roof glass. I doubt I'll take mine in under the recall. I've had no problems related to the roof glass so far.
- SafeLite, based on my experience, is first rate.
- However, they didn't have the software loaded locally to recalibrate the windshield camera, so I had to go back to the dealer for that. If this remains true with the recall, and the job is farmed out to SafeLite, you may be making two trips for the fix, not one.

I really like this forum and have learned a great deal from it.

BTW my car is an Extended Range Premium RWD manufactured on Jan 18 2021. I took delivery on March 3.

Seems unlikely. My best guess is that there was either an issue with the urethane adhesive used during that period or the calibration/setting of the machine that applies it. You can't see the adhesive under the windshield glass without removing the glass.
