This is what happens when you make a vehicle so quiet. I tried to measure the sound level. At the screen it didn't register on the sound meter I used, which means it was less than 50 dB. I have a better meter than measures down to 30 dB. When I get a few minutes I'll try that. It may measure less than that and I doubt I'd be able to pick it up if the meter is placed where your head would be when seated, even if the sound level inside the MME is 30 dB, which would be rather incredible.

Some people think if you can hear it at the screen then it's a problem, but that's silly. You you can hear down to 3 dB but anything below 50 dB isn't considered significant (hence the lower limit on the meter).
I don't disagree with you, in that to make a meaningful comparison the noise needs to be measured in a controlled setting. It is difficult to make a conclusion based on what different observers perceive in different vehicles, I don't think anyone has reported comparing two Mach-E's side-by-side. In the two I have test driven, a day apart at two different locations, I did not notice the noise, but that does not mean it wasn't there: in one car there was constant chattering, the other was parked right next to a road with heavy traffic, and my hearing isn't the best (but I do hear it in the recordings posted here); comparing audio recordings made by phones isn't particularly meaningful either, beside confirming the noise is there, because of the number of variables involved.

How loud the noise is can be quantified with an instrument, how people react to it is another story. I suspect it won't bother me, especially if I have to put my ear close to the steering wheel to notice it, because a buzzing sound bothers me much less than rattles or squeaks. Once I notice the slightest rattle/squeak, I will always search for it until I find it again, which then annoys me even more.

I have to say that this morning I was frustrated about the miles after charging being so low. I called ford and was transferred to 4 different Mach e groups. No one had a real answer and I thought. DUHHH just put the question on the forum. I did and within less than 5 minutes I was not just told what to but some went and posted pictures of HOW to reset and calibrate the battery. I got in tonight before leaving work. All of maybe 5 minutes to find the area where it said reset battery level or something g line that. Anyway it went from 121 to 132 on 95%. It may be right or wrong but it looks more accurate.

Dealership was clueless
Ford was clueless
Forum had the answers.

FYI starting a week from this Sunday I will be driving from Bakersfield,Ca to Houston Texas. 2 day drive. Planned it through the navigation system. Says 7 stops and I think a total of 32 hours. Not sure about that part. In short I think I maybe the first road trip in a Mach e. Cannot wait. All of the factors of speed, weather and temperature as well as mountains should make for an interesting test. The navigation gives you 3 choices. I took the safest which is I-10 95% of the way. Route showed a ton of ford pass acceptable chargers. The only thing the navigation does not do is factor in charger costs.

Is your car really showing a range of 132 miles with 95% battery charge? That seems really low. Did you mean to say 232 instead of 132?

I keep repeating the truism that it doesn't matter if you can hear it. You can probably hear anything above 3 dB. So what? My Snyology backup in its sleep state registers 41.6 dBA and my Mac registers 34 dBA. The question isn't WHETHER you can hear it, it's how LOUD it is.

In this regard, the DIC on my MME registers 38.9 dBA but the ambient on the arm rest is 32.9 dBA with the MME running. Unsurprising since sound follows the inverse square law, so noise at 1" is going to be 576X louder than at 24" (not that all this noise is coming from the DIC). A quiet library would be around 40 dBA and a quiet office around 50 dBA. So at worst you're looking at a noise which is around 100X less than the ambient in a quiet office.

With respect to your test drives, my garage is pretty quiet, less than 30 dBA. Go inside the MME and it's even quieter. (Can't measure it because these low levels are beyond what a normal sound meter is capable of measuring). Compare that to a car dealership where the ambient might be 60 dBA. And once on the road the ambient will likely be over 50 dBA. This is going to effectively mask any sound coming from the DIC since it's 100X to 1000X noisier.

As for thinking that instruments measure one set of noises and human ears another, dBA is based on human hearing.

Squeaks are different.

Look forward to hearing your trip details and hope you have a uneventful trip. I am going to make trip this summer to Houston and really thinking if I should do it in my ice or MME ... your trip details will perhaps give me confidence to take the MME.

Honestly one of my
Reasons for buying the MME was doing long road trips. I love driving and with the pandemic it gives me a solid reason to NOT take public transportation

I highly recommend also mapping the route with abetterrouteplanner to compare the charging stops. Ford's NAV does not have a bias toward faster chargers the way ABRP does, although at this point EA's chargers aren't performing all that well anyway.

Forum had the answers.
- The Forum gets the info from Ford
- Dealership and Ford Help personnel get their info from Ford internal communications groups. Appears these groups are not doing a sufficient job at getting the information spread to a large enough audience in a fast enough manner.
- I guess you could argue the Dealerships and Ford Help personnel should be forced to "read the manuals", as what you were asking is publicly available info.

Something that needs improvement, for sure.

Speaking as a person who's sister is service MGMT at a Ford dealership, they are definitely behind on training. The techs have quite a few on-line tests to get through and they do have reference material provided by Ford. Not much in real world experience as the first MME just hit this area. (NW Ohio) I will say that one of the reasons I went with this vehicle is because I have faith in this group of techs. They'll come up to speed quickly and they're excited about the vehicle and the new technology. My sister and I have regular discussion about the service side of vehicles. I'll share more as things happen and more information becomes available.

Question. I tried that but does it have real world accurate info on when to stop??? There is a problem with ford pass in that to do ALL of the functions like even key use apple car play has to be disconnected.
