Once I heard the Ford connect chargers were recalled, I bought the grizzl-E classic 40.
Very happy with it. A decent upgrade from the 32 amp Ford Mobile Charger.

This is what you should have if you want a charger that is reliable and built like a tank! I used the same charger with my Bolt EV and it is now charging my MME with no issues. I can charge the MME from 0-100% in about 13 hours on 40A with a 50A dedicated circuit.

No internet connection required, and no subscriptions. It just works.

Something to think about with chargers....

Some models will not initiate charging if they cannot connect to the internet. That means if your ISP is doing maintenance when you car wants to begin charging it will fail to charge that night.

Other models will also stop charging if they lose connection to the internet. So if you don't have solid WiFi to the charger your car may not fully charge every time.

These were issues when I bough my charger over a year ago. I know may connected charges are better now but some still have those issues so check them out very carefully before getting e connected charger.

I went with the Grizzl-E so I had a reliable charger that only needed electricity to charge and let the car control the charging schedule and rate. I can shut off the breaker if I need to turn off access to my charger if I am not home for a few days.

Charging station all set now I just need a car.?
Elected to go with a dumb 40 amp with 26' cord after having an electrician install a 14-50 outlet with 50 amp breaker. Great price on Amazon Prime Day.

Several smart chargers have the ability, either through software settings or physical dip switches, to set max current allowable.
Ford has had "EV certification" for dealers since around 2012. It is possible the chargers at the dealer were installed prior to the current Ford connected charger being designed.
No,
The Webasto is the Ford required unit for dealer EV certification. It is "outdoor" rated so used for the public free charging station and for the indoor EV delivery prep station.

Ford recommends dealers to install EVSEs manufactured by Webasto, but doesn't require them. AFAIK, the requirement for EV Certification is just to have at least two 240V EVSEs installed. At least one in the service area, and one that is customer-facing.

There are a lot of great chargers available, so this isn't in response to your choice. ChargePoint Home Flex encourages an internet connection, but it works without one. For initial setup, there is a workaround (on their site) to set the correct amperage. Otherwise, it will work without internet connectivity.

So are the only level 2 EVSE's with easily (i.e. don't require power to be shut off and taken apart) adjustable max current (and not counting cheap non UL amazon units) the Chargepoint Home Flex and the Ford Connected Station? Most of the time 24A would probably be enough (and prefered as the lower current should minimize noise and battery heat), but it would be nice to have the option to ocassionaly use higher power to charge to 100% before a road trip, or to give more flexibility to share one charger when we eventually have 2 evs (which apparently the chargepoint doesn't support well with its app).

The mobile charger would probably be fine for now on 240V, but I'm tempted to take advantage of the federal tax credit in case it doesn't get renewed.

I ordered the Ford Charger a month ago and got it yesterday. I want to keep Ford involved in all aspects of my new car. When it gets here. Production date is 7/19/21. Ordered on March 10th.

Like I said in the post before. Things have changed a bit since I was charger shopping. When I was very few connected chargers were reliable without a connection to the web. I few would work as dumb chargers by default but you could not set them up properly without the internet.

My father-in-law and I both purchased Mach-E's recently. He ordered the Grizzl-E smart Wifi but I am planning on getting the regular Grizzl-E classic model. With the Grizzl-E Smart, we discovered that you need to have internet access working on the charger or it won't work. From what I have read online, the smart features are only for things like having scheduling charging, which I think you can already do with the FordPass app.

Other than the smart features, I love the build quality of the Grizzl-E, it's great for Canadian winters due to the cord staying flexible in the cold.
