@ARK and @RedStallion, completely understand how the PaaK feature is a convenience and desired feature for customers such as yourselves.

I look at it from a product design and management standpoint where it presents so many problems to the manufacturer that is outside of their control, I would advocate against it if I was on the Mach E development team.
I think it may be an age thing. I don’t know how old you are, but I am 43. I’ve always had a car key or fob. For me, it isn’t a big deal to carry a fob. Unlike OP (and this is not judgment, just a fact), I’m too paranoid to not carry my fob whenever I take the MME even on errands. On the other hand, I imagine that someone who is 20-30 who has grown up with digital tech their whole lives, who makes all payments with their phone and does everything else on their phone that she/he prefers to not carry a fob. So, I think it is the emerging wave and everyone is moving towards something similar.

Oh yes I agree. I am of a certain age as well.

but I’m also in electronic and software design so I know what the end result always is when you try make a design feature that works with everyone else’s technology. Eventually the hardware or software changes and then you have a large number of unhappy customers.

Were they "2018" models, or labeled as 2017?
2017, Tesla goes by date of manufacturer. Model 3s Made in 2017 are 2017.

I've had my car since mid-April and my key fob has been stored away in my dresser the entire time. Until now, I've felt safe with PAAK + door code + backup start password; even on long road trips. After hearing this, I think I am going to start traveling with the fob; at least when I plan on driving any significant distance away from home.

How reliable is the key pad? I will likely always have my fob in my purse because why not, but I love the keypad idea, especially to leave for the valet, etc. I guess eventually we might move to face/touch id on that little pad. Because tech is already there for our other digital devices

Biometrics would be so much better. At least I always bring my face with me and the battery for it never dies!

PAAK should work seamlessly if they expect it to be used instead of a fob/card, and they must or why only give out one fob?

I prefer the fob to the card because the car senses it and I never have to remove anything from my purse and then wallet and then lay it along the pillar and then lay it on the console and then start the car and then the card flies off the console when I start driving. To me a fob is simpler. Perhaps to a man with a wallet that the car can "read" the card through, that's not the case.

Anyway, I hope in the 24+ weeks it takes my MME to get here they will have that fixed and if not, I am super happy with a fob.

Tesla did many things well (We own 3!), and I love my Model S, but I now feel like I'm driving a 6-year-old computer and am excited Ford has moved into the EV market. I personally HATE the door handles on the 3 and Y. Almost impossible to use from certain angles and one-handed. I also HATE the card key. I can't open the frunk or boot with the card like I can with a fob. So again, rummaging around in the purse hoping I have my phone on me or to find the card to lay across the pillar and then across the console before I can push the button on the screen to open the frunk. So happy Tesla has pushed the competition to this point! Hope Ford gets it right
You seem to have it figured out and know what you want. Get a second fob and your set. The phone works well for me lately never take it out and has/will get better. But a fob won't leave home without it (too simple and a no brainer from what I see so far). My MME4x is quite and enjoyable. Yours may be solid and real quick. ?
I could do remote start, lock and unlock via Ford Pass before I enabled PAAK.
Right thank you. Once you have the app it makes no sense not to install the only bluetooth row and passcodes. I drain the hatch pipes remotely. If you want remote start than the phone app is required. I see no other way to remote start this vehicle in cold/hot weather other than the phone. Therefore the phone app on at least one phone for our area is a bonus. Setting up the other controls why not. People spent some $ on getting a remote start put in for years now it comes with it.

Must've changed recently since there are 3 and Ys from last November that are considered 2021 Model years.

I keep a fob in a faraday bag because I’m paranoid. And this proves that just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.
I have two Faraday bags for my FOB and my wife's FOB too but when the FOB is in the bag it is quite bulky and doesn't fit in my pocket very well as it's larger too. Not a completely good solution for me. It's not such an issue for her as she keeps the FOB in her purse and when I looked in her purse the FOB was there without the bag. Car works great with both the phone and FOB in the car apparently. I have to find out what she did with her bag.

Mine did this today. Is it because I have an unsupported phone? Google Pixel 5.

Ummmmm, it’s always best to have a backup if one is available regardless of new or mature technology.

This may sound cold or mean but just like Apple Pay or Google Pay, why anyone would totally rely on tech and not have a physical credit or debit car on their person is just dumb.

Murphys Law is always lurking folks.

I got a message late yesterday saying “All Phone As A Key access and Backup Start Passcodes were removed from [ (2021 Mustang Mach-E)] due to Master Vehicle Reset. A vehicle key fob is required for operation.”

I happen to be road tripping and did not bring the FOB with me since I figured with the phone and with the backup passcode that’s two methods to start the car.

Last night after getting the message my PaaK did stop working but I was still able to start via passcode. I have two days left in my road trip so parked it at the nearest Ford dealership overnight and heading there soon to see what we can do.
Anyone had this problem? Is there any way to get back on the road without a fob?

This also happened to me except I can attribute it to a reset the dealer did last Thursday. I drove back from the dealer only to find out the ME was working off the fob and not my phone. When I went to use the car the next day I hot a “no key found”
On the dashboard. When I went to reinstall the key it wouldn’t download
I call FordPass and over 1-1/2 hours later the rep couldn’t get the key to download
To say the least, I’m fed up with Ford. If they can’t get an app to work as intended DON’T release it. They now want me to go back to the dealer and have THEM call Ford to figure out a fix. Another 2 hour ordel to maybe solve a problem that shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place!!
Ford can take back my car until they can figure this out or give every customer a 2nd fob to use and give up on the PAAK. I’m fed up with these toys that don’t work as intended and waist hours of time!!!

Power goes out cash can be handy also. Back up the back up. FOB fits well in the front pocket. In a faraday bag as I don't use it but it is there. Has been since day 1 and see not reason it should not be to date.

That was a long rant over an app but sure it is the end of the world. Uninstalled and set it back up in 1/2 hour. The lasts time it was required was after the paak service update at my dealers.

Well, some may call the refreshed 2020 Model 3 a 2021.

No action was done on my end to initiate any updates fwiw.
I got the exact same message on my FordPass. Fortunately, I have read about all the PAAK nightmares, and always carry the fob. Hope you got your issue resolved.
