Why would anyone be concerned about being the first when a lot of us have already done it?
Maybe because many of you might actually be more careful or even more skilled with this than some of the service folks at some dealerships?

We all use the same diagnostic software and process for applying updates.

Do software installs go more smoothly if done by the dealer (assuming they follow the instructions) vs by OTA? A few weeks back I got caught in this mess of purchasing Sat June 11 and my dealer calling me a few days later thinking I would need to bring it back because of the recall, only to reverse himself after getting his Ford rep to process the sale. He graciously offered to get me in and out quickly once they had the necessary info for recall. Other than possibly getting it done sooner, is there a benefit to that approach?

How does the OTA work? I am one those who can’t connect my MME to my home’s Verizon FIOS WiFi network. Would that have an impact on the OTA or does it only come via a cellular network?
Honestly seems like OTAs are way smoother than dealer visits.

While I know no one can fully answer this question....if you are not planning on using a DCFC and don't plan to floor the car any point to try and run to go to the dealer or just wait for the OTA at this point?

Reading the bulletin, I'm a bit wary of it still. I've had the SSN issue, and they replaced the HVBJB. is this supposed to be a permanent fix, or is it a stop-gap measure. I'm needing to take my car on a 3k+ road trip (Portland to El Paso, and it honestly has me a bit worried that I won't get there...

I mean, I'm not getting the update done until I have some insight on what it does to reduce performance. As a matter of fact, I've turned off automatic updates.

I just heard the dealer in Costa Mesa California has the update and it's updating their cars today to deliver them. I'm gonna see how that goes and take mine in.

Lol at anyone who thinks this was an actual software problem.
Well a software fix seems plausible. If Ford thinks the issue can be solved by limiting how hot these contactors get, an easy solution is to have the software limit power at a lower temperature threshold.

I think there would be howls if Ford cut charging speed or peak horsepower in all situations.

I think a decent guess would be that there will be more situations than before where flooring it will not give max power. Along the same lines, I’d guess that it would be a bit harder to get peak L3 charging speed, because the software fix might be that the car throttles things more aggressively than before for the sake of contactor temperature.

If this is what Ford did, hopefully these situations will be very few and very far between - the HVJB failure was at the end of the day a really rare occurrence, all things considered.

I just did all available updates on Monday. Does anyone know if the software would have been available on Monday or do I need to update again? Our garage can do them for me.
