I ordered my Premium Mach E in 2021 and received it in March, 2022. I paid the extra for the Extended Range battery. All my paperwork stated extended, but I've only been able to charge up to 240 at max. When i picked up the car I questioned why there was only 240 at 100% charge. Basically I was told it may take a few charges to reach the full 100% extended range. After 2 months, still getting low range. Asked again, and again, I was assured I had the extended battery and it was my driving not the car. I didn't understand how my driving usage prevents my battery from having a higher 100% charge range. Mind you, that they never bothered to look at the battery part.

3 weeks ago, went in again! Dealership said they will contact me the next week to have the car picked up to look at. Never got a call back. We took the car to a different dealership and found out I, in fact, Do Not have the extended Range battery and this was something done at the assembly line.

I've been paying on a car that doesn't have what I paid for. This has never happened to me before.

What are my options for retribution. I'm not sure how to go about getting this fixed or compensated. I don't trust the dealership. I'm a first time Ford purchaser.

Any advise? My husband and I are headed back to dealership yet again to get them to acknowledge the mistake.

Thank you!

Your lucky that you are getting 240 miles. Exchanged my standard Mach E for an extended version a few months ago an noticed immediately that I was getting a lot less miles that advertised. I am now only getting 189 miles to a full charge.

I believe that the problem lies in the fact that the weight of the battery is heavier and the car utilises E-HEAT all of the time, this puts a severe drain on the battery, the colder it gets the worse it becomes.

None of this was explained when purchasing the car and makes a mockery of paying the extra money to have the extended range, which is one of the main reasons that I upgraded the car.

DeniseW - I share your pain! I too ordered my RWD ER MME in 2021 (Aug) and picked it up in Mar 2022... and I went through exactly the same questions as you have. Then, in about June, People's Ford in Edinburgh carried out some warranty work and they reset the driving history - and, hey presto, there was the full range on the display! Alas, it didn't last long because (although I am a pretty gentle driver) the real range is so heavily dependent on external temperature, speed, acceleration, heater use etc. etc.

So unfortunately I think we have to accept that the MME has a hard time achieving anything remotely close to the claimed range, even with careful driving. It is a bit of a scam, really, when you think about it.

My advice would be to accept that you have the correct battery and just adapt your driving style and journey planning to the range you really do have.

Hope this is of some help!

In the UK and EU, the government mandates the use of the WLTP range testing process. Unfortunately that results is very unrealistic range estimates that are almost impossible to achieve. In the US manufacturers are required to use the EPA test cycle which is more realistic, but still difficult to achieve unless you drive slowly and not very aggressivly.

https://www.ezoomed.com/blog/buy-new/electric-cars-range-what-is-wltp/

If you look up the EPA range estimate for your MME, you will see it is not as high as the WLTP one Ford publishes in the UK, which they have to per government regulations. It is a shame so many BEV buyers are getting mislead by these government agencies, both in the US and in the UK.

Damn because you think she actually got the wrong battery? Or damn because she clearly didn't?
Damn because that sort of mistake shouldn't have been made in the fist place and double damn because Ford probably won't make it easy for her.....

If you had read the rest of the thread, you would have seen that the mistake didn't happen.

@DeniseW , it would probably be a good idea to update the thread title so people don't keep coming in here without reading the thread and thinking you actually got the wrong battery.

What a ride!

I wonder if there is any way to see under the rear seat....I was under the impression you can't see under there without dropping the battery. Physically seeing if there are cells under there on the 2nd tier would indicate, but I doubt the dealer would volunteer to drop the battery with every accusation like this.

I, too, want to know why the 2nd dealer told her she only had the standard battery.

Actually, in many tests the Mach E overperforms the EPA mileage rating. Edmunds is one source where they apply a pretty good real-world range test to all of their EVs. The 270 mile rated 4X did 303 miles and the 305 mile rated rwd ER did 344 miles. Test is a 60/40 city/hwy mix in SoCal with mild temps.

Of all EV makers, Tesla is the only one Edmunds has called out for consistently failing to meet EPA estimates, there’s your scam.

I also ordered an extended battery and so far can’t get a charged over 270. How can I tell if I receive the extended battery? Is there something in the vehicle registration in the car that I can check?
Thanks for your thoughtful and considerate reply?
Well, taken from the forum's perspective: you are essentially saying that it isn't worth your time to read the explanations already written, so you expect the forum to repeat those relevant posts for you. Can you see where that might not generate a sympathetic response?

You don't need to physically inspect the battery: the necessary data is available by the diagnostic port. Also, as was suggested by several members: charging the car by adding 20% or 25% from a DCFC or smart L2 charger that reports kwh added and using that to compute the available battery size would give a rough enough answer.

But that involves math! And technical wizardry! ?

I did not realize you speak for the entire forum. I also did not see that their were threads on the subject and I will check those next time.
