After 3 years and 3 months, my ChargePoint Home Flex has died on me. The best their support would offer is a 10% discount on a new one, so I’m looking to switch brands. I may get it covered by my credit card’s extended warranty protection at least.

I’m looking for recommendations for an EV charger with a 14-50 plug for 32A charging on a 40A circuit. It is inside my garage and just used to charge my Mach E. Currently I’m not using any of the smart features on the ChargePoint, but they would be nice to have. I don’t currently have solar but have been thinking about adding solar plus potentially battery storage as well, so I’m curious if anyone has experience with the Enphase IQ charger and if its additional features are worth the cost. Support for bidirectional charging would be a wish list item, but I understand that there’s a good chance that whatever I get to replace the Mach E might not be compatible with it anyway. Thanks in advance.

You might check with your local utility to see if they offer anything at a discount. I got a juicebox 40 from GA power for $250 off.

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately Duke Energy is only offering an install credit currently. I’m also out of luck on the federal credit due to my census tract not being eligible.

Emporia has worked well for me, has adjustable charge settings and nice app. Decent pricing also.

I’m super happy with my old as heck dumb EVSE. Too bad they didn’t make it any more. They have a smart version now. ??

I would suggest looking at Tom Moloughney and his “State Charge” on YouTube. He was pretty in depth reviews of all the Chargers.

If you really don’t know what your future holds I would recommend looking into a good “dumb” EVSE for now. Then you can do something different in the future and hang on to the “dumb” unit as a back-up without spending too much $$$.

Watching. I already had to replace my Charge Point HomeFlex while it was under warranty. The wifi capability died.

Really poor customer service.

I'm very happy with my juicebox 40, at one point maybe a year ago I kept getting "charge paused" nothing I could do on the car or evse would fix it, called juicebox tech support, on to a tech in minutes, he logged on reset everything and it's been cadillacing ever since.

I will say I use it as a dumb charger, I don't use the app which I could never get to work properly so if you want bells and whistles perhaps not the best choice.

If you are thinking about solar, Tesla probably has the most cost effective panels, might want to look at tesla universal charger, it is supposedly future proof for both solar/battery and two way charging/home backup. One caveat with Tesla solar is you do not get the clean energy credits. Where I live they are minimal (and likely to decrease) and the substantial price difference with other company's solar it made sense to go Tesla without the credits, but depends on where you live. Places like NJ the credits are worth 10-15 more than where I am.

If you can wait a bit to get a new charger, some time researching solar and two way charging/home backup from the car might be worth the time. I installed solar last winter and I'm sure a lot has changed since then. I know enphase IQ is always in the news with new products.
