I am a rock magnet. I’ve had a rock hit me and cause a large enough crack to replace the windshield on every car I’ve had in the last 15 years (at least).

I had a coworker that I commuted with who noticed when I drove we got hit a lot with rocks from semis. When I rode with him, we got hit enough that he would comment and I’d reiterate that I’m a rock magnet. We had very similar driving styles, FTR.

I absolutely will not buy a vehicle with a glass roof.

There have been a couple earlier threads on cracked roof, including mine. No sign of impact on mine and it was replaced under warranty.
What was the wait time? This is the first thing that popped into my head when I saw all models have the panoramic roof.

All models do not have the panoramic roof.

Crack occurred in June (2021) while I was in Texas. I suspect the cause was heat related. I took it to my dealer last week of June and they ordered the roof. Ford shipped the part roughly 4 weeks later. Part hadn’t arrived late August and is supposedly lost in transit. Ford tells dealer to reorder, which they do. A week later, a truck shows up at the dealer with both orders (!).
Scheduled the car in the following week to have it replaced. They had the car almost 3 days, but they also installed a bunch of updates during that time. The workmanship was flawless - car looked like new when I got it back.

About 2 weeks later, the windshield / roof recall is announced! ??‍♂

Mine cracked with a stone chip last week. My insurance glass coverage covered the replacement cost. Had the work done at Santan Ford in Gilbert, AZ. They had the glass the next day and it only took them a few hours to install.

yikes, with so sign of impact? Imagine what happens if the car were to roll over.

I read it as the 12/12K warranty limit is for an ALREADY REPLACED windshield! So when Ford replaces a stress cracked windshield, then the warranty is only for another 12months/12Kmiles. Original windshield is covered for 36/36K! Right?

The windshield is only covered 12/12k. The glass roof isn't specifically called out in the warranty though, so may be covered for the full 36/36k if there's no impact damage.

No. Look at the context of the other things in that list. And they wouldn't be calling out the warranty on a replacement part in the vehicle's bumper to bumper warranty details.

What's "fixed the repair" mean?

Was the replacement glass the exact same OEM glass?

No, broken windshields aren't covered under warranty, unless it's due to a defect, which most aren't.
Sorry about not being clear...I meant that the windshield was replaced, not repaired. However, this was not a mach-e, and not a glass roof. I was just commenting that Safelite was very expensive compared to a local shop in our town - and to check your local shops before Safelite :)

Ummmm, A and B Pillars. I don't know how much safety glass plays a role in having the roof not crush you during a roll-over. Can any automotive structural engineers back up that claim? I think you might be quoting from auto glass websites, who are interested in selling auto glass. Are you sure you would prefer a glass panoramic roof during a roll-over versus a metal roof?

I agree on the possibility of the windshield potentially directing the force of the airbags though. The seatbelts prevent you from being ejected, rather certain that's what actually keep you in the car. The windshield is exactly what the name implies.
Just think of it like the piece of cardboard you add to the back of Ikea furniture. It will add some level rigidity but it’s also the first thing to break. How much energy that windshield will absorb when it cracks, I have no idea but it’s technically not zero haha.
I don’t think anyone is saying glass roofs are safer but based on the fact that’s there’s one less roof crossmember on the glass roof, it’s safe to assume glass adds a similar amount of rigidity that would technically be compromised with a crack. Although, the compromise is likely just to lead to a bigger crack and nothing else.

Sorry for digging this thread out of the past, but I figured it's better than starting an entire new one for the same subject.

Wondering what OP's resolution was - covered under warranty or denied?

Last weekend I noted a hairline crack in the roof, starting from the front edge and extending about 10" back, almost dead center. I see/feel no discernable sign of impact and I'm wondering if it might be a stress crack.

Obviously every circumstance and dealer is different, but it would be helpful to hear others' experiences.

Not the OP but had a cracked roof. Same situation - no rock obvious rock chip. The dealer’s collision tech and her manager seemed to think the same. Ford wouldn’t cover it. I argued with the BEV team person on the phone to no avail. I went through the BBB process and Ford quickly offered to pay for it minus $200. Probably would have made out better with my car insurance but it was the principle. My roof had previously gone through the recall repair. I don’t know when the crack appeared as it was hard to see. It’s all fixed now.
