Also note that the fordpass app only reports kWh in increments of 2+ which means that you could have added 13.95 kWh and the app will only report 12.

As for temperature affecting capacity - I thought that when charging some of that energy went to keeping the battery at a warm enough temperature to facilitate better charging.

Edit: is there a way to get more accurate readings on how many kWh were added to the battery? Not the wall reading.

You definetly got wrong battery. Happens all the time for some reason. I would call service advisor and try and schedule a battery swap this week. It's like a 10 minute job so should be no problem. Let us know if it helps.

Ford has not seen fit to display that info to the masses yet. For a small investment though, you can pull back the curtain and see lots of data available via OBD. Energy-to-Empty can be used to determine how much energy has been used or added via charging.

OBD data from CarScanner app.:

I’ve posted this chart before, but I think it adds to this discussion, so here it is again.
This is a typical Li-on curve, not the specific MME battery, but it gives an idea.

That reminds me of an even older one, from a show that aired in the late 70's called "Fernwood Tonight," a talk show satire starring Martin Mull as the host and Fred Willard as his sidekick. They had a guest from the fictional town of Fernwood who built an electric car and featured it on the show. I found a clip of that episode--the resolution is poor but you'll get the idea. The car part starts at 3:30.

That's the great Jim Varney of Ernest fame. Died in 2000. he was also Slinky Dog in Toy Story. He was only 50 years old when he died. Great talent.

Think of cold's effect on your battery like this: The farther you are away from the "goldilocks zone" for temperature for the battery, the more bricks are added inside your gas tank (battery equivalent in an ICE vehicle). You might not notice one or two bricks, but in Chicago cold, you've probably got 30 bricks in that gas tank and can't shove as much gas in as you otherwise would have been able.

Thank you, excellent explanation. I really thought I wasn't going to be the type that asks a dumb newbie question, yet I did ?

It’s all part of the somewhat / sometimes steep learning curve. I learned something reading this thread too.

If you want to be 100% certain you could always weigh it ?

Thanks so much for that excellent response. I really thought I had scoured these forums enough to not ask the really dumb question, yet I did... But I really learned something, so as embarrassing as it is, it is worth it. Thanks again everyone for not hitting me too hard (yet).
if you really want to see an accurate number for capacity, in kWhr, get a ODB2 reader like Viecar BT version for $25, and the (free) CarScanner app for your phone. You can see ALL sensor data available and define your own custom 'dashboard' .
