My dealer set up an Enterprise rental vehicle and called and paid for an Uber to get there. I had a choice of the smallest Chevy I’ve ever seen or a Toyota Pickup. I took the truck. It was only just up the road so I walked back after I dropped the truck off.

I've known about the recall for a while. My local dealer sent a text saying they were ready do the service for the recall and I just got a letter in the mail yesterday reminding me of it too. The letter states:

Customer Convenience/Transportation
  • Rental vehicle at no charge (except for fuel and insurance) while your vehicle is at the dealership for repairs
  • Vehicle pick-up and deliver (at participating dealers)
I text the dealership back asking when we can set up an appointment. I also ask about the rental car since this will take 2 days. They respond back with, "Ford will pay 35$/day for 2 days total. Enterprise maybe higher than that. We don't have cars here"

So where do we get from "no charge" to "maximum of $35/day"? Has anyone seen rental prices these days???!!!! Here in KS, the cheapest I can find is $40 and that's before all the taxes.
(yes, in the grand scheme of things, $10-$20 isn't all the much to squabble about.....still)

Anyone else run into a dealership limiting the cost of the rental? Anyone run into a dealership "not having loaner cars"?
Tell them what the letter says. If you still don't get satisfaction, contact Ford directly. Ford needs to lean on the dealer if necessary. There is complete contact information at the end of the recall letter ('How Can We Assist You Further?') It clearly says 'without charge.'

This is a recall and they need to make it right. This is completely their fault and their problem.

Well, this is a safety recall. Ford is under the scrutiny and regulation of NHTSA on this. There's a strong incentive for Ford to not get their attention.

The letter also has the contact information for NHTSA.

And, dealers should be taken to the woodshed if they screw with the terms of the recall. This ain't MSRP/ADM business.

Then your dealer isn't doing what Ford instructs them to. Ford is paying for the rental car.
No dealers of any flavor on this island have ever had loaners, not for this or any other recall. None of them. And good luck with rentals, they’re still generally unavailable.

What the local Ford dealer will do is pick up and drop off anywhere on island. And they’ve always done that. That can entail 4 or more hours of driving per customer delivery or pickup (round trip).

Exactly what the dealer told me when I took the car in yesterday.. $35 a day, the rest is on you.. My car now sits at the dealer, windshield cracked during removal.. One to two weeks for replacement to arrive..Love the car, but very disappointed in the whole process to say the least.. WW

I can understand conditions possibly being different in HI and AK, but for the contiguous United States, it shouldn't even be in question. This is Ford's problem.

Mine is in right now, I'm driving a Kia Sportage I have to put gas in. Man it is slow lol when I floored it I was like whoa this is weird.

Had been driving one pedal and was jerking around for a bit haha. Can't wait to get the mach e back and test the fast charging past 80 percent and get my doors to open when I'm near the car with the fob again!

Somehow only works with the rear doors so hopefully the dealer software updates will fix it.

You’re missing the point I think. No dealers, regardless of brand give loaners on this island. None, never have, never will. Car rentals are still extremely tight and quite hard to come by. Last I checked the two dealers we deal with will call Enterprise so you can arrange a rental on your own but Enterprise (et al) won’t bill it to Ford (or Toyota).

The Ford dealer here will pick up and or deliver, something neither the Toyota dealer nor the Chevrolet dealer will do. (The Chrysler-Jeep-Nissan dealer is a no starter for other reasons imo). That’s a huge plus to me if we do that. Round trip drive could be a bit over 4 hours for some of the locals (ours would be a bit under 3 hours round trip).

Just because a recall might say a loaner or rental is authorized doesn’t mean you’re going to get one or the other. Every locale is unique.

It’s all good @KevinS, our Ford dealer has a collision center with an excellent reputation. I’m less worried about them in this regard than I would be if the local Safelight guys were actually doing the glass recalls. I’ll get this done eventually once I’m mostly recovered from my surgery (knee replacement). And take the sales guy up on the standing offer to pick me up and take me to the car. He gets a a huge amount of reputation business just from things like that.

Also just be aware many dealers including mine doing this service have cracked the windshield taking them off. My car has been at the dealer for 3 weeks. Mine was supposed to be 2-3 days as well. Its time consuming they remove the headliner for the glass roof and as I mentioned if the break the windshield it can take 1-2 weeks to get a new one. I still don't have my car back and I took in 3 weeks ago today.

My dealer has said they won't do the work without ensuring a replacement windshield is available locally, which I will reconfirm before they touch my car.

No point missed. Like I said, things might be different in Hawaii and Alaska.
