Well, I still have my last car, a 2005, that our daughter is now driving. I plan on keeping the Mach-E for at least 10+ years. I love cars but I don’t like paying for them. I plan on milking the lower cost of maintenance for as long as possible. And no gas costs will be a nice long term saving, too. After a year, I still really enjoy my ME and don’t see that changing any time soon.

After buying a Select AWD with a crazy good interest rate, and trading that in after a little over a year of ownership for a GTPE with a pretty bad interest rate and seeing its resale value drop a crazy amount in 8 months of ownership, I’m not buying another car for some time. Feel like I got burned both times just a little, first time by the dealership with ADM (it was on lot and it was 2021), second time just by circumstances.

I just want to pay this car off. Love the vehicle, though.

I feel the EVs may age quicker than cars in the past, with technology advances from manufacturers pushing each other. I think the pure EV companies will push the legacy manufacturers harder than they’ve ever been pushed. My mache replaced a 2005 Mazda6.

to the original question. I can see me keeping it 5-6 years. Key upgrade point for me will be improved battery tech/range since I live in a cold climate. I don’t need more than the 270 mi/90% range I get in summer weather, but the 140 mi I get in Jan/Feb makes me a little nervous.

The end of next week when my Dark Horse arrives at the dealer. The Mach E GT Performance edition was a 10 1/2 month wait, and it was worth the wait but now I am over it with the lack of chargers and the new operating system that took away functionality that was there when I purchased the car. I still find it difficult to believe Ford cannot fix this when every other Ford I own has the ability to see the Tire Pressures Map Radio station etc. all at the same time. I am also concerned about the cost down the road with battery degradation and cost associated with that. The colder weather kills the range even in Georgia and I just can’t seem to shake the Range Anxiety. The car is great for initial acceleration, but I think my Escape is faster on the highway passing from 70 to 90. The overall weight of the car limits the cornering ability as well as braking. I personally do not want to deal with all of the recalls that are on the horizon.

People say this fairly often, but I highly disagree.

What does a 2023 Model S have of substance that a 2013 Model S doesn’t?

A decade and the cars are basically the same technology.

We will more likely see small incremental improvements every few years…….. just like we always have in the car industry.

The car industry and the tech industry are smart. They make the new version just enough better to make you want to buy it, but not so good that you never need to buy the next one.

iphone 16 will be just a little better than 15. Next gen Mach E? The same.

But if anything, OTA updates mean we don’t need to buy a new car to get BC 1.3 for example. So the “new model” and the old one are actually more similar than our ICE counterparts in the past.

So the OTA updates may mean we age “slower.”

So If I don't want to acquire all the gear that some of you have at home to do the FDRS update...do I need to take it to the dealer and ask them to do it for me? What's the best practice here...or is it wildly depending on how helpful or unhelpful your local ford dealer is?

I was referring to technology. The newer ones just have a bigger battery, but similar tech.

And that bigger battery? Been around since 2017.

I’ll ask again more clearly- what technological advances of substance exist in a 2023 Model S that aren’t in a 2013?

My response was to someone saying EVs will age more quickly due to faster technological advancement vs ICE.

I disagree.

You do make a point against the used BEVs about battery state of health. However from what I’ve read the batteries last much longer than an engine or transmission in an ICE, so that wouldn’t make us age more quickly either.
