12V batteries fail and it seems they fail more often in electric vehicles. Indeed it was the only thing that ever failed in my wife's Chevy Volt. We had to replace it for shorted cells every 8 or 9 months like clockwork. Thank the gods for Costco's no questions replacement program.

Saturday morning -30C (-15F) woke up to a charging fault so went out to check it as that is the sign.

Unplugged, started and errors

Service AdvanceTrac
AWD Off
Service Vehicle Soon
Pre-Collision Assist not available
Stop safely now

Vehicle will not go in gear.

When I plug 240V back in get all red port lights.

Car dead again. 12V dead again and brand new. Bad 12 V appears to be not the problem. Third time is the charm and need it fixed this time.

Should put the 12V charger on it. Does anyone know if it can be too cold to charge a 12V (damage)?

Hey there. I'd like to look into this battery concern on my end. Can you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer?

Done; need all the great minds I can get at this stage to please fix this glitch for me. It was noted that the car was drawing power from the 240V charger (not charging) out of schedule for over an hour yesterday evening and then the 12V was dead this morning. Some state triggers it.

@Shayne Sorry to hear, we feel your pain. It must be okay to charge the LVB to at least -30F, otherwise the car would be unusable in northern locations. That said if your charger has settings, you could start easy, maybe 10A to 20A, but even that should not matter.

We have been much warmer than normal in upstate, NY, although some chilly days are starting to happen now. We can go down to -25F at least a few times a year, which I thought was unusually cold for the U.S., but when I did some googling, a lot of locations in the US can go that low in winter from NW through the midwest to Maine. MME must work normally down to -30F, or a lot of us are going to have trouble.

Keep posting, and tell us how it goes.

I can tell you that at least one of the early demos Ford was driving around last year had a 12V battery minder cable showing in the frunk, but we thought they solved this 12V LVB problem last spring/summer through software updates.

Thankyou for the info the charger started at save (snowflake) and then swithed to charge 4 amp.

It is alive again with a 12V charger and then fired up and charged itself to 82%. Left it running (started) until it got over 80% where it dropped to 1 amp. It is even showing puddle lights tonight so it must know it misbehaved. ;)

Wondering if the first error code may have something to do with it?

That sounds like it might do it (hv circuit stuck open). If the hv contactor cannot close, the DC/DC converter cannot come on to maintain the LVB.

Where is the lever to close it ;). I guess if it still does not close it will do it again. Have no idea if it is intermittent or stuck for good.

Drive over some bumpy roads! I think you are just going to have monitor it until a dealer can have a look. Maybe search the forum for hv contactor or similar, I vaguely remember someone having one changed.

Hey! I think I might be having the same issues as you! 12v dead Monday night, took a while bit able to finally get it jumped after calling ford roadside. Happened again tonight. Couldn't get it jumped, got it to a dealership on a flat bed and magically not dead anymore? No idea what's happening and scared to drive it. It was just at the dealership Thursday and they said everything was fine. Clearly not I'd say...:(

Sunday morning it came on for 10:45 AM departure about an hour early. When I got in the 12V was at 97% 13.2V. Drove it 22% and drove great as usual. That night it started to charge at 10 PM as scheduled. ?‍♂

Monday it came on and drew power 5:00 AM "preparing for drive". The 12 V killer appears to be triggered randomly which is not all bad if you have a code system that says Hybrid battery positive contactor - circuit stuck open.

@TheVirtualTim similar problem to the one that was fixed with software last February that effected us? Could it be contacts that kill the first 12V and now is working on the second one? Two times in the three it happened at an ambient temp of around -18F. The other @ around 14F and first time it dropped. All times below 32 (CND 0). Worked well thru the summer but cold has a way of bringing problems to the forefront.

Hi there! This doesn't sound like an experience we want you to have with your Mach-E. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to see how I can assist you with this concern.

This the the help PM I received ?. Thanks great will get right on that. I will talk to my dealer and will not be phoning a 1-800 tier 1 support line. Too funny. Wondered what happens with all these PM's now I know.
