Wrong, Ford Pass only gives you %Charge added not kwh. Yes you can convert if you want. Juice Box 40 gives me kwh added and date. It gives you session totals and cumulative totals. I like to separate my EV usage from my household usage. Some EVSE units allow you to adjust the charge rate from the app, others you have to open to set dip switches, and some are not adjustable.

It does, look at where it says Energy. This is how much it adds after 1 hour of charging at 11 kW. I have the 70 kWh battery.

If you ran an 11kWh charger for one hour and gained 7kWh in energy, you have a big problem.

7/11 = 63.6%, i.e. you have a 36.4% loss. That's a disaster. Or, FordPass is full of crap.

If I look at the charge log, it says I added 13% to the battery on my next to last charge. 88 x .13 = 11.44kWh. So that's not right, because it's for the previous charging session. In that session, Juicebox says I used 12.513kWh. 11.44/12.513 = 91.4%, i.e. a 8.6% loss. That's more like it.

Yeah, I have to agree with you, the FordPass app is crap. I said it's on the app, I didn't say it's accurate, haha. I believe my EVSE's app for actual Energy Use.

Well it does and it doesn't. I am currently charging and yes it shows energy in kwh. BUT, once you unplug and end the charge session the info appears to go to the charge logs where the kwh disappears. The charge logs appear to be kept for 30 days only. At least that what it currently appearing on my fp app. I still prefer my JB logs which go back a year now or until I decide to delete.

I must admit I was curious about how much electricity I was using, but didn't buy a smart charger. Went with the Grizzle 40 classic.
I installed a meter to check how much electricity used.
I am time of use power and have the car set to charge within those times.
Easy to see

how much used by multiplying the total KWH over the month by the cost per KWH.

What do you do with that data? Do you make any changes based on that data?

Having access to that data comes with a literal price. If you aren't using that data or the extra capabilities of the smart charger, don't pay that price. I guess, if you have nothing better to spend your money on and feel Chargepoint or GrizzlE would better know what to do with that money, then sure, go ahead.

I get that some people on time of use plans need/want more scheduling capability than allowed by the car. Those owners will benefit from a smart charger. Some owners electrical plans have different rate tiers based on peak power draw, so again I get the need for a smart charger.

If you just want a smart charger so you can look at the numbers, I'd argue you'd be better off buying a "dumb" charger and putting that money towards something else. The car will give you plenty of numbers to look at. Fordpass will actual KWh added with each charge session. Granted, that is going to be a little less than what comes out of the wall but there are pretty good estimates available for that difference.

I completely agree with this question. What are you going to do with the info? I get a detailed report from my utility every month and can see hourly usage and there is NO DOUBT when I am charging the car. Very easy to see that.
I still use the ford mobile charger. Works great on my NEMA 14-50 outlet.

I suspect there are few people buying a smart charger for the sole reason of seeing charging data. The top two reasons to buy a smart charger over a dumb charger are:

1) Getting a rebate, or discounted price, from your utility company.

2) Setting the charger to charge on specific days/times (as you noted).

And you can't trust FordPass to tell you that the car is locked, much less anything else.

I knew someone who manually tracked miles driven and gallons of gas on every fill up for over 100,000 miles. He didn't do anything with it, but he was happy he had it. This sort of seems like that to me. Shrug.

I'll be using a Grizzle-E 40 amp dumb charger too. That meter is really cool! Where can I get one of those???

I have a similar meter for 120 volt appliances from Harbor Freight that's kind of fun to use. I plugged the 1949 Frigidaire in my garage into it and found out the sales literature from '49 is correct: the thing uses about 120 watts when the compressor is running, but of course that jumps to 160 when you open the door to grab a beer and the light bulb goes on.

Do you have a “ dumb charger “ that you would recommend? My Ford Mobile charger is getting flaky after 9 months of use.

Grizzl-E is rock solid, have had zero issues with mine.

Same here. And it's 2/3rds of the price of nearly all the others. Basic, dumb, solid heavy cable. UL Listed, made in Canada rather than China.

I dialed my dip switches down to make it just 24A. That's all I need. That still does a 75% fill in 12 hours overnight.

Yeah I’ve got mine in the garage but I could definitely see it doing totally fine outdoor in the Florida sun, it’s so well built
