Not entirely true. The less options the better it is for assembly. More options could theoretically increase the cost to produce the vehicle, which is a downside. although, that could possibly be canceled out by not paying for stuff you don’t want.
Thats Said, I would have liked more options. Would have loved a select with the upgraded headlights and maybe the 360 cameras but none of the other crap that comes with the premium.
OK, I'll rephrase to be more specific: No downside whatsoever to the consumer - unless you have trouble making decisions.

You'd think that modern computers and manufacturing processes would have solved this by now. Easier said than done, no doubt, but it is 2021, not 1921.

Massive improvements have been made, but nothing is free. There is a big different between NO downsides, and MINIMAL downsides.

Nothing is free my friend. Cost always gets passed on down hill.

To a certain point it has, software is the same just with certain options turned off, wiring harnesses are often the same just left unused.
It really just comes down to having stock on hand that’s not being used which has tax implications and the time to reconfigure for each vehicle instead of an entire line that’s exactly the same. If you’re goal is speed, the less options the better.

There should only be 2 configs , 3 max.

Standard (RWD, Standard range battery)
Premium/GT (AWD, extended battery)

Oh, also open up Ford show rooms and service centers. I'm sick of dealing with scam artist dealers and it's why I still don't own a Mach E.

If they simplified the lineup, then we'd have people on here making posts about how they need to offer more customization options. Ford has always had tons of packages and trim levels. It seems to work for them so they are sticking with it.

Um, there are. Reread my post. Select, Premium, GT. Two battery selections, two drivetrain selections. They’ve basically followed a Steve Jobs model.

I'm very glad my SR AWD Premium exists, I'd be annoyed if I had to pay for the ER battery when I have no use for it. I think in general it's annoying how with most cars, if you want some feature, you get locked into a whole bunch of features you have no use for just to get the one thing you want.

I personally hope Ford keeps it the way it is.

I would like there to be more options. Specifically paint colors/interior colors, a panoramic roof that actually opened, and a larger battery option wouldn't hurt. Speaking of the Tesla configurator, it could not be more boring. I could play on a Porsche configurator all day.

Have you tried the Ford F150 configurator? So many options!

Possible - I would say the Pandemic proved this just-in-time manufacturing approach gets completely squirrelly in a crisis. Streamlining inventory and manufacturing process reduces the amount of parts you need to manage.

I can see a day when cars are only offered as white or base coat and you get it vinyl wrapped any color you want at the dealer/ service center. :)

I could argue the F150 is an established platform with years of manufacturing in traditional ways. The Mach-E is a slightly different animal.

Ford needs to offer more paint options in the grays.

Almost all of the options they have are shades of grey - we need more colors!
