Update on Mach-E launch progress from engineering friends in Mexico

That won't work since neither the mobile adapter nor the vehicle will let you limit charging current to 16 amperes.

I have these outlets throughout my garage. My choices for Mach-E were to either buy a 20A EVSE (charging at 16A, 240V), or install a new ≥ 40A circuit for the included mobile EVSE.

So what is going on in the pic and how do you make it work? L1 max and not worth it?

The MME EVSE may be able to charge 12 amps at 240 volts. I’ll try it when I get access.

It's more of a proof of concept, and isn't really practical. Maybe if you have a long power outage and have no other way to charge your car and happen to have a new F-150 with the built-in generator. But I don't think this will be very common.

Yeah for that setup, about 3 miles of range regained per hour.

In my opinion, Ford's mobile EVSE will be a lot more valuable to me if ford sold additional pigtails for it to handle a variety of different NEMA receptacles.

Yeah, we can be patient. Some of us have been for 14 plus months now. I’m at 13+ months of patience. What we can’t abide by though is the silent treatment from Ford. No we don’t need to know there’s a battery charging issue, or a climate control issue, or the anti skid brakes aren’t releasing, or the EverReady bunny is jealous and sabotaging the cars. We need to know that there is a plan, what the plan is, and how it’s going. Sooner rather than later.

I generally agree with your sentiment. They could/should be explaining more about the shipping timing and issues.

But I will take a little issue with that 13+ months. Most of that was self-imposed. We knew when we signed on with a reservation that the car wasn't due until ~Oct/Nov 2020, so we can't blame Ford for that. Then COVID pushed the entire industry back by months (many as much a 6 months but Ford actually did good keeping the Mach-E to just 2). That put us to Dec-Jan for the earliest ones. That's when the clock really starts ticking on unexplained delay.

In the end, it's appearing that most of us will slip 1-2 months from that. Yes, they should be explaining that better. But actually, 1-2 months delay isn't really that bad for a radically new vehicle. It just "feels" worse because we chose to reserve way in advance.

I agree. When I placed my reservation back in Nov 2019, I knew the car wasn't supposed to start production until sometime around September 2020 ... I think it actually started in October 2020. I was expecting a remote possibility that some could get delivered in November... but probably December was more realistic. When it looked like mine would arrive in January I realized Ford isn't really *that* far behind schedule (and considering all the challenges of such a weird year ... that ain't bad.)

My car made it past the QC check at the Speedway (Ford code for: @trutolife27 is hot-rodding your car around the track) it was released (2 week delay) and is currently en-route to my dealer. There's a remote possibility it may arrive next week ... but my realistic expectation is that it will arrive the week after) That puts it at mid-Feb ... about 8 weeks later than I expected when I made the reservation (and nobody was expecting a global pandemic when we made reservations in 2019).

Knowing Ford quality ... I expect to be very happy with the car. Ford wont let their first vehicle entry into a new market to smear their reputation.

To make a comparison (I hate doing this) ... Tesla was releasing cars with quality issues that they knew about as those cars rolled off the line ... and they shipped them anyway (no other auto-company would ship cars with similar issues). AND... consumers let them get away with it. Tesla gets a pass. Nobody else would have been given a pass for deliberately shipping shoddy quality. If there's a problem, everyone will call them on it. Ford basically has to achieve a higher bar than Tesla. Ford will have engineered this car to make sure they wont need a pass.

OK, sorry busy morning. While some sit on the couch and "phone it in," others have to take up the slack. (like Ford's Comm. dept...lol)

You can buy or make a converter/adapter so that you can use 240 volts from a NEMA 5-20p. On an EVSE that is rated for 240 volts, you can charge at its native 8 or 12 or even 13 amps, but instead of 120v, you get 240. It's only 3kW, but that's twice as fast as a 120 granny charger.

To be completely honest, when I placed my order for the Mach-E in November 2019, one of my hesitations is that it would come too soon. I got my current car 10 years ago in February. I have this imaginary milestone that I like to keep my cars for 10 years. I was worried back then it would come in 2020 and before that milestone. But what do you know, my car is now scheduled to arrive by February 21st and it is almost perfect timing. I've been super anxious at times and frustrated with the lack of info from Ford. A good deal of that frustration is simply because I am on this forum and thinking about it all the time.

For different reason, but I also wanted to get MME. That was one of the reasons I missed out on the original FE. I waited a week and by then FE was "sold out". I'm OK waiting a couple of extra months, since I'm barely using the car I have (averaging 50 miles a week).

One of the reasons I talked myself into it was that the timing was PERFECT pre-covid. We have a lease that expired on 12/19. It would dovetail perfectly with that end of lease I thought. Then Covid. I have extended that lease two times now.

And for those who hate dealers . . . when I told the dealer now in Feb I would have to get new plates for the lease car (my car is on the way and has a 3/3-3/9 window) he said he would GIVE me a loaner until the car comes in. How about THAT? Not all dealers are bad.

My comment about how long we've been waiting was primarily intended for those who keeping saying we're being impatient when complaints arise about the lack of communication and rolling delivery delays for unknown and apparently uncommunicable reasons. My Mach-e has been sitting after its build date for a month now and my expected delivery date according to Ford? Who knows, it keeps getting moved back.

And no, it doesn't feel worse, it is worse. Tell your customers what you're doing and why.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to finish my 10 mile hike today. Day 1 of can I walk from Las Vegas to Fremont before Ford gets my Mach-e to Henderson.
