I'm thinking about trying one. of the universal visor mounts, but try to modify it to use on the headliner windshield gap.

I tried to figure out how to mount my recent v1 model today, I don’t see any solution to get the receiver inline with the black dotted area thats not got a sever tilt up due to the headliner. This is pretty wild. Any of you with v1’s able to take a picture of your solution?

This works great for me. At an angle but seems to be as sensitive as ever.

Wow, ok, that's about what I pictured for mine (same unit). Thanks and at least I know I'm not crazy now.
I'd love to know what mount that is, mine is just below the black dots and the sensitivity is TERRIBLE. I can't get it any higher. I'd KILL to replace the windshield with one that doesn't have that coating.

The mount shown is the OEM V1 suction cup mount (at least from the prior gen stuff). He's just got it tucked ALL the way up onto the black edge of the windshield. I haven't duplicated this yet. Toying with selling my detector and giving it up as my perfectionism will NEVER be ok with that angle.

Or maybe we can find some kind of multipart detector that can mount in that upper space and mount a display elsewhere.

So I have noticed that the radar seems to work fine, but my unit's GPS is not working properly due to the coating. I had to move it to the portion of the windshield where the black dots are, to the left of the housing. It works just fine there. Other transponders should work fine in that space as well. It must have a relatively weak GPS unit inside, since my phone seems to work pretty well being on the charging pad.
This is the best I could do and it seems (so far) to greatly improve performance. I am actually getting front alerts now! The tilt towards the back is only slight. So it's still pretty level. This is using the Gen 2 stock suction cup mount. I think that permanent mount adapter I linked above will work and I will probably order it. The suction cups seem to be holding nice and strong but I just don't trust them in extreme temps, cold or hot.

Lesson Learned - Blend Mounts are useless on this car. Going to try to return mine. The good news is that higher is better when mounting a radar detector. So as long as there is enough clearance in the black knockout area for the front facing sensor, this is a better spot anyway. The first attempt I made at this mounting spot, not enough of the front sensor was inside the black. It was level though. Second attempt is pictured below and it seems to make a big difference so far.

I'm a big fan of my blendmount, but I guess I'm also going to have to go back to suction cups for now and see if my wire tap will reach (or lengthen it, obviously). Thanks for testing it out! I need to now get mine installed asap.

That’s just the suction cup mount that came with the detector.

For the record, I reached out to Blendmount to see if they'd make or have a side mount for our vehicles and they replied that they do not. :'(

FYI, I'm getting ready to attempt this along with my BlendMount today. I just wanted to pass along the service manual instructions for removing the trim piece. Not too informative but at least let's you know where the clips are.

Finally gave it a shot. Thanks for the great write-up!

I will be looking for a better mount as the Escort suction cup one doesn't stick out enough for the detector to lock in at this angle. I can't use the blendmount either because it does pickup a lot of laser and the windshield does also block a lot of signal. Just yesterday I had a cop coming toward me on a town road. The detector went off when he was about 30 feet in front of me (when it wasn't mounted in the back square). The windshield also blocks gps if it's not near the black spots.

Please let me know if you've figured this out yet. I was thinking the same thing; if we can get it into the headliner it would be perfect. I can't use the OEM suction cup mount because the angle doesn't allow the detector to lock in, so it just slides off when I accelerate..which is all the time. haha

I'm using the windshid suction mount that was included with my DFR9. I have it pushed up to where the black dots are. The suction cups are as partially under the headliner to the edge of the glass. So far it's been working. I haven't ordered a universal visor mount yet. Thanks for reminding. me because I doubt the cups will hold up in cold weather. I'll order the universal mount tonight before I get sidetracked again.
