My solution to these concerns was to take the mobile charger off my garage wall and put it in the MME. I bought an EVSE for the garage.

If it looks like you’ll run out of charge, drive to the closest Ford dealer and ask to plug in.

Using a generator with gas is a bad idea.

He said this is common in MI, WI and also in North East? I am from California..so not sure I will ever do this ;-)
Uh...no, no it's not. Even with the cold these vehicles have the kind of range that randomly running out of charge isn't a real concern, especially when you can charge overnight any given day.

Might not be a bad idea in Florida, where hurricanes come unexpectedly. I don't know what people in EVs are going to do if they need to evacuate quickly. A single charge in insufficient, the stations along the highway are too few and the cars are too many.

Lol, if your friend is going to do this they also should make sure they get one with a “True Sine Wave” and not a cheap one With a “square wave”.

But seriously tell them to hold off on the generator purchase for a month. After a short time living with a EV they will lose the range anxiety.

I still don't get BEV range anxiety.
If you live in an area with ample charging options when you're on the road, then you may have that view.

But there are many areas of the country that are literal black holes for realistic charging options on an extended trip. Before I placed the order for my Mach-E, I checked charger availability along a couple of long distance routes that I would potentially drive at least once a year. Had it not been available, I probably would have gone down a different route. It wasn't anxiety, but rather not wanting to pay nearly $60k for a vehicle that didn't have the flexibility I require.

eh - if you are evacuating, do you really have a few days to park and wait for it to charge up off of a small portable generator? Can you carry that much fuel?

If you live in an area where that could be a mildly common occurrence, then in my opinion a BEV is not for you. If you are a two car family then go for it, but not if it's your only mode of transportation. A few more years will bring us even faster charging cars with better range and better infrastructure, but for now if a range of 300 miles isn't enough to evacuate a potentially dangerous situation then it's not for you.

People with ICE cars rarely carry gas with them, you gotta be pretty oblivious and forgetful to run out of gas or electrons

I live right on the gulf coast and 300 miles can get me to CFL or the Atlantic or to Georgia, it is not a worry at all for me.

This is an interesting idea, but wholly impractical.

Most portable generators are 120V only, so that means that, at best, you can can get 3 or 4 miles of range per hour of charging. So it would only be useful in very limited circumstances. You'd be better off just calling a tow truck when needed rather than keeping volatile liquids in your car unnecessarily.
"Most portable generators are 120V only" That is not correct for ~5300 watt and above. This one weighs 136lbs and is considered "portable" https://www.powerequipmentdirect.com/Westinghouse-WGEN5300DF/p106577.html
I wouldn't go this route.

My goodness, this is a bad idea.

You know the best thing about EV’s? Fuel is literally everywhere. If you see a light source, there is electricity nearby. Go plug in your car to a 110v outlet instead of carrying around an explosive everywhere you go.
