This has been tested using a '21 build date Job 1 car that's up-to-date to include the most recent BCM and GFM updates which enable the frunk to be opened using the door keypad.

I purchased a Lightning key fob (PN NL3T-15K601-EB or Ford 164R8304) and using the two key fobs I already had programmed, I followed the instructions from the owner's manual (found also here ) and now have a key fob with a working frunk button.

Fobs are available at the Ford parts counter or a lot cheaper at keylessentryremotefob dot com Direct link to the correct fob here. Note; the -EC version of the fob shown here does not come with the key "blade". I swapped my original cut blade into this fob. The -EB version comes with the fob and a blank key blade.

EDIT: When doing the programming, if it doesn't work by following the instructions to have all doors closed....open the driver's door and try it again. I think the instructions may be wrong on that point.

Just to be clear, though, you purchased this fob, followed the instructions to program an ordinary MME fob, and the new fob's tailgate automatically now controls the frunk? Or is there some other programming needed?

Thanks! {Jonathan}

It’s a Lightning key fob that also has a frunk. So the frunk button also opens the frunk of the MME and the tailgate button opens the trunk.

And I can definitively confirm it works on '21 Job 1 Rapid Red cars (and I'm confident it works on all the other ones with 315Mhz systems as well).

My Lightning Key Fob came in at my Ford dealer today but I won't be back in town until late Saturday night so Sunday will confirm (I hope) that this works on a '21 Job 2 car. Don't see any reason why it won't.

What’s the point of a fob with a Frunk button when you have to double pull a lever to open the Frunk? Thumb exercise? ;)
If you have the Fob button, you wouldn't have to use the lever or fiddle with the Fordpass app. I don't like any of tge 3 method we currently have to open the frunk. I dont understand why they went thru the trouble of making a fob with buttond and not include that button.

I think he meant because he has a 2021 Job 1 car that does not have the remote frunk enabled yet. So, even with the remote, it will not work until an OTA is pushed or the FDRS updates are installed. But who knows what those Hawaiians are thinking most of the time?

I think a functioning frunk remote is awesome. I would expect future models to have it, to be honest, but I understand the repurposing of what was available at the time. I hope future versions have the hands-free frunk, just like the rear liftgate.

I'll take a Lightening fob. I dont care that it doesnt have a horse on it as long as it works. I havent used my Fordpass points yet. This is the best use for them for me.

And just to be clear @luckie, I'm well aware that 2/3rds of the MME's in existence now have remote releases for their frunks.

Yeah pretty much. No FDRS ability and thus a remote with a frunk button is simply exercising your thumb and nothing else. I use the frunk pretty regularly.

Roger that. Kinda guessed you were joking but for a good reason I see, makes sense.

Ford will do what they're going to do with the Job 1 frunks, Mr. Farley stopped calling me for advice on how to run the Ford Motor Company ages ago. ;)

Getting the job 1s caught up with the job 2 2021s, the 2022s, and soon 2023s feature-wise might be an impossible task given the ongoing need to address various software bugs, software corruption, and other various improvements. If we never get a remote frunk release (button or otherwise), I'll be happy with the car. Double pulling the mechanical release doesn't take that much effort. :)

Held on by adhesive; a good spudger would get the job done no problem
The whole backplate with the logo comes off, that is how you access the battery. I'm just wondering if he's been able to confirm it does in fact fit on the Lightning Fob and it isn't a different size or something.
