Came out this morning to no lights on the Grizzl-E and car didn't fully charge. Flipped the breaker off and on and still no power. Finally unwrapped the Ford mobile charger after almost two years and that is working fine and charging my car now.

I submitted a support ticket to United chargers and they replied quickly, but asked me for a video of it doing... absolutely nothing? Kind of weird. Also a pain in the butt cause I already took it off the wall. They've got all the other info and I sent a picture of the label on the side, I'm not sure how many people send in these huge units just for the fun of it?

Sad. I wonder if living in lightning land contributed to it's demise.

No idea, I've got a whole house surge protection and nothing else was fried. I think there were some bad units if I remember from a while ago. I've literally had zero issues with this unit until now, and I bought it in Sept. '21.

You forgot to include a conspiracy theory or rumor in your opening post!

Hmmm.... maybe the new FP update removing securialert caused the car to fry the EVSE?

I'm more annoyed they want me to send a video of it doing nothing, pain in the ass since I already took it off the wall and this shit is unwieldy to put back up and plug in in my garage...

I contacted United back around Christmas because my charge handle was getting hot and causing charge faults. They asked for all the same info.. so it might be a scripted thing for the first level representatives. The info, pics, and video are then sent to their engineer type people to look at and they’ll get back to you.

In my case it turned out to not be my EVSE at all but a failing charge port.

I've had that happen a couple times to me for various things in life that needed to be replaced. It's very frustrating but basically I've come to the point where I just say, "Look, take it back and send me a new one. If it's operable when you get it and I'm wrong then I'll pay for the shipping".

Or for those times when they want to make you wait a month for them to diagnose something before sending you a replacement. I tell them to charge me for a replacement and credit me when they find out I was right all along. I understand that some people need hand holding, but I'm not at that point in life yet.

Are you not using the aluminum mounting bracket? Mine takes like 2-seconds to pull the retainer clip/pin and slide it up and out.

Have you opened the case yet? I forget if there are any fuses inside there, but if there are you could check those first.

Yeah I reached out and they said the rep was new and that I didn't have to send a video, but I didn't get that response until I remounted it and took a video to appease them lol.. of course.

I am using the bracket, it's mounted a little higher due to where my outlet got put and I already jerry-rigged the Ford Mobile charger to plug in on an upside down outlet lol so I was pretty annoyed

Man, that sucks. So sorry...

My old dumb 2011 Leviton 16-amp permanent EVSE lived outside for a decade and never ever had any hiccups thru two PHEV cars... same with Sonny Boy's 16-amp Leviton, puchased in 2013 when already used.

Matter of fact, one of these old Levitons went on to serve a user here on this forum. Those Levitons were pretty much bulletproof.

One reason both I and Sonny Boy chose the Grizzl-E units was to replicate that dumb EVSE reliability but at 40 amps... grrr.

I’d be curious to pop the cover off and look for any burn marks.
