I wonder what the new prospective quarter mile time would be with lengthier max power increases. Hopefully a higher top speed by 5mph too. Quarter mile times matter to alot of people with Mustang badges. The quarter mile time and trap speed is not great for a car with 480HP+ and 600+lb-ft tq.

Dudes...screw being cynical. He said in no uncertain terms "we ARE going to change that" and "OTA".

I say hell yeah....no matter how much better it is. They plan on improving it. Fuck yeah, thank you Ford.

Tom Moloughney of State of Charge interviewed Darren Palmer and asked him about the thermal management on the Mach E and GT.

Palmer responded: "We do throttle after a certain period of time, um, the power to the wheels, so that's something we can control over the air and we are going to change that limit. We've done that on testing to make sure the vehicle lasts the way it is expected for the customers..."

Tom's interview (throttling portion at 7:50)

....WHEN ???

judging by the wide-spread of versions of updates to PowerUp across the Board I have my doubts when any significant changes will be delivered OTA. Furthermore, to arbitrarily change the arbitrary limit without additional physical sensors for feedback on temps in key locations, or physical upgrades of actual cooling in any locations just seems stupid.

Darren says he knows charging times are important and they’re working on it but that only the LFP cars will benefit from faster charging.

Darren! Please shave 8 mins off my 10-80% charging time, thanks!

personally, I don't give a shit about faster charging.
Much rather have faster DRIVING

Of course that’s the million dollar question.

My guess is it’ll be in the next few months.

They’ve been testing this for a while so I’m betting they waited to announce it until they knew it was definitely ready and coming soon.

we need a thread on over under bets...

  • Before or after October 1?
  • longer or shorter than 8 seconds total?
  • same or different level of throttling when it kicks in? (I don't think we have an objective measure for this)
Ok, here is my guesses

- After Oct. 1. Best guess is the 2024 models will launch with the new software and they will roll out OTAs sometime part way through the model year (mid-2024)

- Shorter. I think 8 seconds is really asking too much. I think 6 or 7 is more likely.

- Same level of throttling as now.

Either that kind of bad news or it will be included in the $800 BC subscription!

Screw it, I’m all in!

Before Oct 1

10 seconds

Less throttling off boost

And just for fun? More peak hp! Don’t forget, these motors are capable of 562hp combined. Why not free up a few extra ponies while you’re at it!
