I agree. My gate, a LiftMaster and garage door, Chamberlain (same company) both require that I'm basically ramming them down before they'll open. Since I back into the garage I noticed it works better when the garage is behind me. Obviously this doesn't help you any, just an observation.

My Rivian opens both from 1/2 a mile away. So Ford obviously has something wonky with their homelink setup.
Both my Mach-E and Lightning open mine from at least a half a block away. Every time. I haven’t tried to see what the limit is.
The extreme variability is puzzling.

My 19 Edge opens mine from down the block, my 17 Mustang Coupe won't open it at all more than half the time. I don't even bother trying any more. I have the original opener on the visor. Built in system closes the door every time without fail.

The only way I got mine to work was with the front license plate model (NY/NJ). They send it to you with special screws that cannot be removed without special tools, which I had to buy when my wife insisted that we needed to replace our warn-out 20 year old license plates ... the things we do for the wives ;)

No issues with the EZ pass transponder and other devices when installed as indicated. I thought it was very thoughtful of Ford to provide that dotted space for installation.

I wish they would address weakness in the embedded garage door opener though. It takes me multiple tries while manipulating the sun shade and ensuring the vehicle is square to the garage door to be able to open it. All the while, pedestrians are crossing in front and behind me. Not a good set up.
Garage door - works fine for me... might want to explore adjusting the receive antenna on your opener.

Wish I could. It's a building garage and I have no say in how it's set up. It's a car issue, not a garage door opener issue.

Most modern garage openers no longer have an antenna that can be adjusted. The little wire that sticks out is no longer a thing.

On my property gate there's a huge antenna that sticks out of the box. I can have the front of the car 5 feet from it an it only works after repeated attempts.

Why this happens for some people and not others is beyond me, but typical for this car. When it works fine for other vehicles but not the MME, my process of elimination points to the car. It might also have something to do with the frequency used by some openers and not others and the MME not playing well with some. There's a few different frequencies used.

A few suggestions.

If there are LED lights that are ON near the receiver, they can interfere.

Try lengthening the antenna of the receiver.

Lastly, sometimes reprogramming can make it work better. May do the first part of the process, and not the second, and when you do the whole thing it MIGHT work better (did once for me long ago).

Has anyone had a problem with their E-Z Pass transponder attached to their windshield not being read when they go under a toll reader? If so, how did you solve the problem? If not, where on your windshield do you mount your reader? Is anyone using an externally-mounted transponder? If so, how did you mount it?
I recently had this problem. I told ezpass to replace the transponder. Now that I know based on the manual to place it in the black I’ll change where it’s s mounted.

On my one year old Genie - the antenna is still there. open the case on your opener... the effective length needs to be ~6 inches as these work on different bands in the few hundred MHZ range.

I’ll try to reprogram and see if it helps. Thanks Rick

The new Chamberlain smart openers do not have external antennas. The logic board contains an antenna but it's not meant to extrude from the opener.

Either way, if it was an antenna issue then it wouldn't work with any other vehicle or the remote. The fact that other vehicles and the remote work well, but the MME doesn't, means it's the car.

I have tried reprogramming it a number of times and it's never worked well.

When I got a replacement sticker type transponder, I used some tape to hold it in place to make sure it worked. That way I could easily peel it off and try again if it didn't work.

Yes, also had problems at my office garage (which scans an RFID tag in the car to open the gate).

Using the dots helps with the office garage, but for E-ZPass, I ordered a free license-plate mounted reader for the front of my car. It works great, though it does require a license plate frame in the front.

Huh, my Chamberlain smart opener (5 years old) opens 300' away with the HomeLink visor. It's probably the last of openers with wires sticking out.

It's possible the HomeLink got a bad "recording" of the signal when it was programmed, may be worth trying a reprogram. Or maybe it does use a different frequency than the typical 315 MHz, or the IRR windshield is blocking too much in the direction of the antenna.

No problems with our EZ TAG installed up in the dotted area behind the mirror.
