Probably until either I take that dirt nap or the car dies. If I was a few decades younger I would probably get rid of it when we have multiple options for 500 mile range (in the worst conditions) EVs that charge in 15 minutes.
Love this car, unless I’m on a long road trip with poor charging infrastructure. Probably never do that again so I can continue to love this car,

When EVs start breaking the 400 mile barrier on the regular (and 300+ miles in winter) - so... 2030? Maybe?

When both a better EV (by my criteria including price), and probably not until something new has been out a couple of years... My Mach E is a bit over 2 years old, and probably not for another 4 at the earliest, but could easily stretch out to 10 or more years.

I voted until the wheels fall off, but the reality is that my partner will almost certainly get my hand-me-down car when something with a significantly better battery chemistry comes out in the future (not very likely) or when her car dies and I will get myself something new and shiny (more likely). The MME is currently our road trip car but we don't need two road trip cars. The MME will always be a good around town car.

I find the talk over significant changes in battery technology in the short term pretty amusing. For the next 4-5 years range improvements (if there are any) will primarily come from improvements in volumetric packing. I think there's actually a good chance that things go in the opposite direction in the short term where our ~100kWh batteries become somewhat of an oddity as people get over range anxiety and something closer to 40-50kWh becomes the norm.

I promised myself that I'd never buy another Ford after my old GT350 due to the issues with Ford warranty, build quality, etc. Then my dumbass goes and pays $70+ for the gtpe when it came out. Now thanks to Ford "fng" us all with their price cuts, the car makes no sense to sell. Might as well keep it until it dies or it's stolen or totalled.

If I could walk away from this thing today I would. Still have 18 months left on a 2021 Options model.

Had to have the roof panel under the fin repainted.
Front camera repaired.
Panoramic roof recalled.
Windshield recalled.
The cruise control randomly just stops working until I pull over and turn the car off and back on again..
Door sensors they don't have part's to replace.
A front frunk error they can't fix and that happened after being in the shop for a week for the door sensor they can't repair.
High voltage recalls.
I had to pull the cover off my Level 2 charger and drop it from 40a to 32a because some random update this spring broke 40a charging speeds.

And I haven't even gotten into the dumpster fire that OTA's are.
So many stupid and needless changes. So little improvement. So many times I have to go back in and reset profiles. Turn on options. Resave my charge settings. Cancel some ghost navigation that randomly shows up in the native navigation app ever other update.

It's just endless. I *WANTED* to buy this thing at the end of 4 years. Now I just want to get rid of it as fast as I can.

But hey, at least I have an Alexa button I'll never use in prime real estate screen space and a trunk button I need all the time buried in a menu and embedded in an image. So I got that going for me.

Agreed. We don't take trips after our first trip to chargers in our area. Poorly maintained, never cleaned, seldom work, slow charging.
In APR bought a model y AWD long range 20 rims custom paint after tax credit paid $44500. Our day trips in the summer are anxiety free, plenty of superchargers along routes in PA, OH. 15 to 20 minutes gets 140 to 150 miles. At 65mph highway ac on runs 3.7 kwh. Its very comfortable, excellent fit and finish many upgrades and a 9 vs a 10 on the GTPE. We are very happy with our GTPE as a daily driver and its been trouble free in 18500 miles. Dealer ota cleared up 12v and susp fault. Both fit our needs at 75. Ford killed it in my opinion in style, comfort and quality of material. 5 second limit and charging speed only con we see. Both ev for us are keepers.

The massive depreciation on my GT may make it more likely that I keep it longer, but cars have never been an investment. This is why I normally buy used cars instead of new cars. For example, I purchased our 2017 Cadillac XT5 for $26.5k in 2020, and the original MSRP was $60k. That's a depreciation of 56%. Of course my brand new $62k MME is going to depreciate. How can we expect anything different?

The difference may be the fact it is a BEV, which seem to be depreciating faster than ICE right now. Who knows if that will continue? Is this just a MME problem, really?

We shall see in 5 years when the market is flooded with even more crossover BEVs.

Notice the commonality on that list? The vehicles all fit into one of two categories-

Large luxury sedans or large luxury SUVs.

Basically a whole category got clobbered at the same time.

But the entire list has 1 glaring issue in common that we unfortunately share- high repair costs.

What’s a battery replacement cost these days??

That exactly how my wife and I saved so much money over the years. Bought used and kept them for years. During that time we built a new home
