Since the frunk can be opened simply by applying 12 volts to the wires hidden in the front bumper, would you say it's a bad idea to store valuables in the frunk?

If I recall, the two wires in the access port only work if the 12v battery is dead. Ben The EV guy did a vid on this as I recall he mentioned that because early on a lot of people were concerned about it.

Your understanding is not correct. Battery must be dead for that to work...

It's really just "Security by obscurity" Most common smash-n-grab types might not think of the frunk since it's not a Tesla. I keep stuff in there because these cars are still quite uncommon in my area, and most still see it as an ICE. But again, as @Dear_OP said: Don't store anything of value in your car.

hopefully the OP will see this response....

yes, the hood can be popped via the 12v jumpers, but ONLY if the 12v battery in the frunk is completely dead.... which is something we all hope never to experience.

so, the frunk is probably the 'safest' place in the car for anything valuable since contents cannot be viewed from the outside.

I would have minimal concerns about putting something valuable in the frunk, as long as no one saw me do it, and it wasn't in there long-term.

Once you break into the car, it literally takes 2 seconds to pop the hood.

The frunk's best security feature is that very few even know it exists. I forget about it most of the time and I own the car!

While it’s not super secure, it’s the most secure storage place in the vehicle. If I remember correctly, the manual release can’t be operated unless the door is open. Just another step that smash and grab thieves won’t do.

Unless the insertion of the valuables in the frunk is observed. Seen so many men stow their bag or women secure their purse in the trunk then walk away.
