Wow, it's about time! Nice to see Ford finally doing something to help their customers and hopefully this puts dealerships in their place. Sadly, I don't think this will affect the dealer markups, it will only prevent the dealership from selling the car to someone else for at least a year unless the reservation holder agrees.

That’s not what it says.
It says that Ford will allow the dealership to force the retail buyer to sign a no-resale agreement. This is to keep buyers from flipping vehicles for profit in the first year.

You may want to reread it.

Oh, I see. It was my understanding that the dealer was the purchaser. It was was explained to me in the past that the dealership buys the cars from Ford and can do what they want with them, thus the dealer markup, selling reserved cars to other customers, etc.

I guess this still protects the customers from price scalping and someone buying up all the inventory for re-sale.

It seems like dealers can and will charge whatever they want for the cars if there are customers out there who don't care and will pay the extra ADM.

I’m hoping that even if this only specifically mentions the Lightning that this will light a fire under some sketchy dealers for the MME too. Seems to be that this still allows dealers to throw ADM on dealer stock but provides a stick for dealers who hurt FMC’s reputation. That’s somewhat broad and if my dealer tries any shenanigans when I finally go to sign for the MME I definitely plan on bringing this letter up and mentioning my willingness to take it up the chain with Mike Levine.

It’s the last part of the email I don’t get - I understand Ford wanted to limit speculators from flipping the Lightning, but what if I just flat-out don’t like it? I own it, I don’t see how I can be prevented from selling it? I’ve bought pure-bred dogs with similar provisions, but that’s because the price I paid was for a “pet”, not to stud the animal for profit.

This is don’t get…

Saw this article today regarding Ford putting dealers on notice about Mark-Up's for Lightning customers.

All I have to say is ? to Ford. Really liking what I'm seeing from Ford recently. Customer lifetime value... Glad to see they are putting emphasis here.

Ford needs to put their dealers on notice over their MME markups as well.

From what I understand, this is already a thing on other limited production, usually high end sports cars. So that only people who actually want the car for a car and not as an investment are the ones buying it.

I'm guessing with the car market the way it is right now and Ford also just starting to seriously jump into the EV market, they're trying to dissuade scalping for similar reasons that they would normally do it for high end sports cars.

Tom Moloughney has a post on this subject and opines as to the tail end of the email basically saying the clause is just a recommendation.

Not sure much my recent Mach-E shopping experience may have impacted this, but it sounds like Ford is trying to tamp down on a lot of the issues I experienced.

E.g. providing inaccurate backlog information, advising the only things to buy are these vehicles way over MSRP, etc.

Glad to see them doing something about it.
