Wow! People need to mind there own business. I can't imagine what asshat had enough ego to post this sign.

You have no idea the person who is parked at the chargers and their situation, like they might have an appointment they need to keep or may have to pick up children from school. This is a public accessible charging station, emphasis on public.

Every time I have used a fast charger and talked to the people charging there they have no idea about the charge capabilities, or lack there of, that their car has. It's possible manufacturers don't want their customers to know because they're afraid that they might lose them to someone with better charge capabilities.

A few weeks ago when I stopped at DCFC they were capped at 35kW, I walked around to a few others to see they were also capped at 35kW, I mentioned to an MME owner "OK you're at 35kW too" and she said "I know, it's so fast, I love it!" I just chuckled and walked away and went to another location.

Do you understand what's going on here? Did you read the sign or the posts about it?

No one is saying that owners of certain vehicles shouldn't charge. Literally no one. What the sign says and what most of us agree with is that you should use the charge unit commensurate with your vehicle when available. Using one much higher powered than what your vehicle is capable of increases wait times for everyone and is selfish. You don't get more power from a 350kW unit when you can only accept 50kW.

There's a lot of things that are public, and as part of the public you should be respectful to others. Your comment is like saying that we should mind our own business when someone throws litter on a public trail instead of packing out.

This goes back to education. At the point of purchase the buyer should be made aware of the charging curve. "Now this car has a max charge rate of X, so don't bother plugging in to a faster station. Yes they are labeled". I'm sure I'm giving way to much credit to car sales people. The only gem of wisdom I've heard from a sales person in regards to the MME is "it's really fast!" ?
There is just no way, in my opinion, a salesperson could explain all the ins and out of the various chargers, charge speeds, networks, etc to a new customer in a way that they would remember! Maybe something from Ford included with the sales package might help but info from the sales person when all you want to do is get in and get out - no way!

I think whoever wrote that sign should have used more exclamation points. I always find that more exclamation points gets my point across better.

That would be great. While you're at the dealer waiting for the Finance Manager they could play you some videos from the State of Charge YouTube channel. ?

Maybe wait till you get home! Never DCFC’d in 19 month but I do understand the nuances. But when I drive by some of the stations just for a look while traveling, like in Vegas, I can see why people can have a problem figuring out which charger to go with!

Yes, it is exactly what the sign says. You don't have to explain charging to me, I understand exactly what is going on here. I have a problem with self-appointed charger police, putting out misinformation on signs when someone who has a Chevy Bolt as every right to pull up to a fast charger as anyone else? Should they opt for a lower charging station,? Yes, if available, but we all know that's not always a choice.

My issue is not with posting a sign - there is a whole lot of bad charging etiquette and much of it probably comes from ignorance. I just think that sign coulda been way simpler and more accurate.

When I first got my MME I was in SoCal and had to jump right into a road trip just to get home to the Bay Area. My Escape died on my way to Huntington Beach to see family.

I had no idea what I was doing let alone what my car could handle. Quite frankly I pulled into the first available charger regardless of the capability.

This assumes that you have a choice of chargers to pick from. My road trip was after the July 4th week on a Sunday. Every EA station I went to was packed. Too much free charging affect!

I think that there is a wide swath of owners out there and not all are tech savvy. I know I'm not.

Now that I have had my MME for 3 months and I spend time on this forum I have learned a lot about my Mustang. I bet there is a percentage of EV drivers that don't care and don't totally research their EV's.

Now that I'm home I use my home charger that is powered by my solar.

Yeah, there are a million variables that make it a tough discussion to have any single agreed behavior.

When I was coming back from Indianapolis a month ago I stopped at an EA station on the Ohio turnpike where two of the four stations were down. All that was working was a 350kW and a 150/Chademo. Should I take the 150, and possibly block out a Leaf owner who has no alternative, or the 350 and make it so someone that can do 270, even if only for five minutes or so before it starts to come down from peak, has to take that 150 instead.

If we get to where 8 stall EA stations or whatever else are available with four 350 stations and four 150 stations and Chademo is gone, then yeah try for the station that is closest to your average charge rate. But as things stand I am just glad if I show up and the charger is working.

Not advocating against at least trying to not block out a 350 if you drive a Bolt or MME or whatever, but odds are even the person making this sign doesn't understand that peak capability isn't the same as charging curve. If your car can hit 270 for a few minutes if it shows up preconditioned, at a low enough battery, and so on, awesome. But I haven't seen any EVs yet that sit at that peak forever. Typically people show up too high on charge or they only hold peak for a few minutes then drop to 220, 180, and so on. While you are still of course quicker on a 350 with those vehicles than the 150, I think most would find that on average being on the 150 isn't going to add that much time to most of their drives. Probably spent more time making up this sign and posting it than they lost having to use a lower charger this year.

Just leave out the part where they tell them to use the other two chargers commensurate with their vehicle. So yes it is what the sign says if you cherry pick the words.

There's no misinformation in the sign, but it could be written a bit nicer for those who are overly sensitive and get triggered by exclamation marks!!!

You better bet that if you're in a bolt at a 350 with 50kWs open I'm going to say something. I have no issue whatsoever educating people.

For systems really to work well as you confirm you want a charge, the system should reserve the appr charger for you. as in 'at XP street pull in (or back into) charger # X. Or even, wait 10 minutes and use charger #Y.
