I have not yet received my car but I went to get the house ready. I will most likely drive 30-50 miles per day with the occasional 150 mile “trip” to see family. My car will be outside most of the time, charger will be in an exterior closet with cord running outside (a 15 foot of cord would be ideal)

1) What charger do you recommend, Why? How long have you had it?

2). How loud are the chargers/charging process? (neighbors window close to location). I see some videos of extremely loud charging! Wow!

3) Any other details/instructions/things to know….you can provide would be appreciated!

They fixed the loud charging it very quite now assuming you get the update which you likely would since it will be a new build. I have a smart charger Wallbox Pulsar Plus. 40amp. It great and weather proof 25’ cable and small footprint normally $599 on Amazon or Wallbox site can easily track cost to charge.

ChargePoint Home Flex is a very popular option, though on the higher end price and feature-wise of available chargers.

You don’t need this charger, which runs around $700. Lots of people get it though because of quirks with their local utility either only subsidizing some higher priced models (and it’s sometimes this one), or by giving you more money for getting a more feature rich model (this was my scenario and I gor it for this reason). There is also a 30% federal tax deduction (capped at $1,000) for your charger + installation costs.

I typically charge at 32amps, though the ChargePoint Home Flex can charge at up to 50 amps (Mach-E caps out at 48 amps). It’s also worth mentioning the electrician install cost will be higher the faster you want to charge.

But 32amps is plenty for most people and should easily get you a full overnight charge even on an extended range model, as you likely would not be charging 0% to 100% (bad for the battery).

Though part of the reason I went for it (and had my electrician install the wiring to 48 amps) was for future proofing in case 48amp charging becomes more important with future EVs, and if I ever need to top off in a hurry at home with a few hours notice, to be able to do so more easily.

1) I'm a big fan of the Ford Mobile charger that comes with the car. May not be a popular choice on this Forum but I couldn't justify dropping an additional $500+ to gain 7 miles/hr of charging time. Ford pass App works fine with it and how often are you really driving your car home with the battery completely drained thus needing the faster charge overnight. Really is about your work/home life schedule. As long as you're home by dinner and charging you'll have a full charge by the morning.

2) Whisper quiet...shocked to hear that any aftermarket Level2 charger is that loud that a neighbor could hear it. I actually can go in the garage and other than the neon blue flashing cylinder around charge port on the car I can't tell if the car is even charging.

3) If you're lucky enough to have a breaker box in the garage or even a short run from your basement up to the garage you are looking at a simple affordable install. Ask around and find an electrician who can swing by after hours and knock it out. My job took 1 hour and looks professional and cost me $170 from a licensed electrician. I almost let myself get sucked into the thinking that I needed 28 miles/hr charging and spend $1000 total for Charger and install but 21/hr and $170 worked just fine for me. Enjoy your car. I can't even begin to tell you how fun this car is to drive.

A couple points of clarification:

What you are asking about is not a charger, it’s an EVSE (Electric Vehicle Service Equipment). The charger is built into the car.

As far as I am aware, the only charging noise comes from the car (cooling fans), not the EVSE.

The Ford Mobile unit that comes with the car will be more than adequate for your described needs. The only drawback being that if you want it in the car when traveling, you will need to remember to pack it up and stash it back in the car.

Full disclosure, I installed a Ford Connected Charge Station. It allows me to leave the mobile unit in the car at all times and I am secure in knowing that if I ever need to charge at the maximum level 2 rate, I can do it. I’ve had my car since February and and only one time did I need to charge before a trip where I wouldn’t have been able to get to 100% charge if I only had the Mobile Charger.

Also keep in mind that you currently get a tax credit to purchase and install an EVSE. That is set to expire and may or may not get renewed/extended. If you think that at some point you may need to charge at a rate greater than 7.5 KW, there may be no better time than right now to install that capability!

Here's what I use. It's a Grizzl-E. It just works, haven't had a lick of trouble with it.

None! Just use the supplied charging cable. I am charging at level 2 with 240 volt, 40 amp curcuit. Granted I only charge from about 50% to 80%, but it does it in 3 hours. Originally had my off-peak schedule from 9pm to 8am. Changed to start at midnight. I really do not see why I would need a "wall mounted" 3rd party charger. Someone talk me into it. Maybe a 2nd Ford charging cable, but can't justify the additional expense.

Thanks, Im leaning this way as well. I only drive the 30-40 miles a day (if that), which sounds like a 2-3 hour charge each night to bring it back up.
The noise issue... I saw some multiple older post about the car sounding like a "lawnmower" when it charged, but I think that is older and has been resolved. I would not purchase the car if it was "lawnmower loud" when charging!
Thanks to all who answered.

I use the included charger and park outside. I just run the cord outside from the 220V outlet when I charge. For the mileage you mentioned it would finish charging in 2-4 hours.

NP. lawn mower. Nope. But there is a hum from the vehicle when charging. My garage is just off my family room where we watch TV and movies. If it were a lawn mower it would piss me off. Can only hear it when in garage and more of a buzz vs a small engine.

The mobile charger will likely suffice. But, as mentioned, there are incentives right now to buy/install EVSEs. The Federal credit expires at the end of the year. If your local utility also has a rebate, it will likely expire at some point as well. Many of the utility rebates also enroll you in a program that gives you lower rates to charge if done off peak (the expensive EVSEs they require give them the ability to monitor when you charge). Considering this is the direction cars are going, this is the opportune time to take advantage of incentives to get an EVSE purchased and installed for very little money.

Cord length can also matter. The mobile charger cord is shorter than the hardwired ones. While the distance might seem to be within reach, some slack so that the cord drops to the ground easily is nice to have.

For me, it was less about current needs (I did need to install at least a 14-50), and more about the long term. If you'll need to install a 14-50 for the mobile charger, also keep in mind that the GFCI breaker required is more than $100 while the breaker for hardwired is less than $20. You'll also need to pay about $20 for the outlet, box and face plate. An EVSE can use -2 wire (no neutral) instead of -3 also saving money. Add in utility rebates, and you can get a hardwired for nearly the same cost as just adding a plug and have better future proofing.

If your panel would need upgrades for 60A but not for 50A, or if you're planning on moving within a couple years, that could change the equation.
