"You can turn off the regeneration and, if you're going down a hill, the car will do almost a neutral phase, just let it roll. You can coast to 80 mph. And you're not using any fuel," he said. "Imagine a gas car and putting it into neutral and not use gas. Tesla automatically regenerates as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator, and it slows down."
It's not coasting per se, but heading downhill on my i3, I can find a position in which I'm only lightly touching the accelerator and the indicator on the car shows that I'm not using any power--nor am I regenerating . It's essentially the EV equivalent of coasting.

Picked up my car today after getting a flat replaced. Put it in reverse and it started creeping back. ? The tech had turned off OPD. A travesty. After a few weeks of OPD the other feels just..... wrong.

Habit.
After 7 years of Volt/Bolt ownership, I could go months without ever touching the brake pedal.
Plus, Chevy EVs had a meter so that you would always know how much regen kWh you were creating at any moment, which allowed you to pace your deceleration to maximize regen while coming to a stop exactly where you needed to end up (eg, you didn’t stop short and the need to use energy to move forward).
I’ve developed good regen habits over the last 7 years.
Same here. I learned a lot from driving my Bolt for the past three years. I will definitely miss the Regen Paddle and I really wish that the Mach-E had the instantaneous kWHr usage/regen.

Having never owned a BEV, or even driven one before, the 1PD is more of a novel thing to try out. I like that it keeps the driver a bit more engaged. Also, there is a mildly competitive aspect to trying to "nail" smooth stops right where you want without having to touch the brake pedal or creep along. Getting better every time out, and don't plan to switch back at this point.

Lol this is so true. I switched to whisper with 1pd the other day and there is definitely a learning curve. I was with my wife today driving the short SF blocks all across the City, and at every stop sign I was narrating how I was doing with my ability to stop right at the crosswalk. My wife was basically ignoring me and playing on her phone lol

For those who use 1PD, what do you like about it? Why do you use it? What are the benefits? I heard that it doesn’t extend battery life.

I LOVE 1-p.... and wish I could crank up the regen power even higher

try hard to never touch the mechanical brakes because I love knowing all that braking energy is going back into the batteries rather than off as heat.

1 pedal Regan might be the reason you make it home or one on the side of the road. Regan extends the range. On the trip we took Monday we might of not made it if it was not for the regan.

Totally does. I drove my fusion and it was not a great experience like opd.

I drove my old car again after driving my Mach E for a month and I almost missed my right turn I was making. I forgot I wasn't using 1pd and my car didn’t slow down quickly enough having not put on the break. I love 1pd because one of my favorite activities is snowmobiling which uses the same concept as 1pd—only using your right thumb. I love the feeling of being one with my vehicle from start to stop. It’s just fun to drive.

Actually, this is one case when even those who like 1pd would want to turn it off. It's more natural and precise to keep your foot on a brake while backing up.

I like using one pedal drive, but I must not be good at it. Somehow, my range is worse with it turned on than if I have it off. I have a pretty short commute, with some stoplights, so you would think it would be a good setup, but I turned off one pedal about a week ago and my range seems to be better and better.

Maybe I will swap back just to make sure it wasn't weather moving my range around. I really do think one of the worst things about the Mustang Mach E is the brake pedal, so it would be nice not to use it.

On a related note, is it just me or are the driving insights in the app extremely judgey/conservative? I have been trying and trying to get more "excellent acceleration" marks in the insights, but it is constantly saying rapid. I'm the kind of driver where cars tend to streak past me leaving lights more often than not. How slow do you have to go to get this car to give good marks?

This is where I am at. I do like it, reminds me of my manual mustang, but it is a very weird situation backing up.

This is a really good way to put it. ?

I turned off that backseat driver.

1 pedal driving suits my driving style. As a retired truck driver I tend to drive a car the same way I drove a truck in regards to stop and go driving. In a truck you learn to ease off the accelerator and roll slowly to traffic lights to try and conserve some forward motion for when the light, hopefully, changes before you come to a complete stop. You don't zoom up to the light and brake at the last minute like a lot of people do. The only time I don't like it is when parking and I'm learning to shut it off before attempting that to avoid hitting curbs.
