At 80MPH, you will be getting something like 25-40% below peak efficiency which is generally around 50 MPH. This happens for any car, EV or ICE.

mpg-vs-speed.png
Peak efficiency isn’t around 50MPH in all cars as you can see from the graph you yourself posted. It has to do mostly with gearing. In an EV, it’s generally more efficient the slower you go, and definitely more efficient under 50MPH. I don’t know where peak efficiency of the Mach E is, but the graph won’t look quite like the ones you have here.

Man, numbers are all over the board here. I am highly skeptical of anyone claiming to get better than 3mi/kWh at 75mph+. Maybe with optimal temp, no HVAC, no passengers, and a massive tailwind, but that is not realistic.

2.5mi/kWh is more realistic at highway speeds, but you can count on that dropping to 2 or even lower if the battery is cold, you're carrying a lot of extra weight, or you're driving into a headwind. Welcome to the joys of road-tripping with the MME. This is the cost of driving a car that isn't shaped like a dorkmobile.
I drive about 73 - 75 on the highway. We've driven thousands of highway miles, my wife and I, a cooler or 2, and some suitcases. In warm weather, we get 2.9 - 3.1 miles/kWh.

In the winter, we get 2.3 - 2.5 depending on temp and heat usage.

Never gotten anywhere near 2.5 in warm weather, nor 2.0 in cold.

Sorry I had to use a Tesla to get elevation change. I thought ABRP showed elevation but maybe only in the phone app. 1.0 speed is going the posted speed limits. This trip was all down to your freeway speed not elevation.

Agreed.

If you're really trying to stretch the range for an MME, then I believe Turtle mode would be the absolute most efficient way to drive. Maybe there is something with different rolling resistance of the tires at very low speeds, but the general idea is to reduce air resistance as much as possible.

The Taycan has 2 gears, so that would change things, but I'm not sure how.

Here are my "real-world" numbers (mi/KwH) on on 6000+ miles of extended highway trips, around 75-78 mph. 21 Premim AWD, EX:

Winter (temps below freezing): 1.8 - 2.3. Heating the car does a number. Wind is a big factor and is the cause the spread.
Spring temps (40-70 degrees): 2.2 - 2.8. Less heating, but wind still a big factor.
Summer temps (80 - 95 degrees): 2.8 - 3.2. Wind is the major factor for spread.

I've achieved 265 real-world miles with 9% battery left crossing CO from Denver to Grand Junction without a charge - speed averaged around 70, lots of mountains (up and down), temps 65-75.

The Mach-E has terrible highway mileage! I was in Quartzite,AZ heading to Glendale,AZ which is about 120 miles. I charged up with 220 miles of range but when I got home I ended up with 30 instead of 100 left and from Palm Springs,CA to Quartzite,CA was the same way, Ialmost ran out of charge! I should of got to Quartzite with 15 miles of range left but had to U-turn and goto a Hampton to charge up enough to get ust to Quartzite. What is the driving logic on the highway?
Yeah, Palm Springs to Quartzite is a stretch. When I did it (21 GTPE), I felt better about making that last charge before Quartzite in Indio (EA at Walmart). As to Quartzite to Glendale, I only had to go to Surprise, and yes, I was down to 30 miles when I got home. Lesson learned. Let it charge up to 90% in Quartzite. Notably, I'm always in Engage mode, so I don't know if Whisper would improve anything. Maybe it's worth trying.

Since the inefficiencies of an electric motor are pretty linear, the second gear in the Taycan isn’t going to affect the fuel efficiency vs. velocity. It will affect an ICE since they are generally less efficient below their torque peak. ??

+1 on skepticism of 3mi/kWh at 75. Drag increases with the square of speed. 3+ mi/kWh at 65 sure... at 75... highly doubtful. at 75+ I'm calling BS.

Secondly, I always look where the poster is located... The difference between battery capacity at 80 degrees F and 20 degrees F is ~20%. short winter range is not just the resistive heaters fault.

Sounds about normal to me. I have the standard range and do 1.7-1.8 miles per KWh on average, highway and city combined. Can't get over 2 ever. Granted I'm in PA and it's only about 40F outside, but still.
On my GT I think I get up to 2.8. IDK that I have ever crossed 3. I live in MN so feel you on the cold

Thanks for pointing out an EV has less miles on the highway!!!! You’re a genius! You lose range in the winter time too!!!!! Do your homework before buying an any EV!!!!
You're welcome? I did the home work and bought the damn car as a daily driver to work sir!!!! This was my first road trip and went well besides the mileage but thanks to other helpful members I know what to do now on the next one!!!!

You do know...that when you decide to post anything regarding mi/kwh or GOM mileage estimate discrepencies that this is going to be the response. You have been a member of the forum for almost a year. No one is intentionally trying to troll you; but having said that, you can literally see a post about this topic almost daily/weekly and A LOT during the winter.

People are just explaining that having an EV like this, you have to always take speed, temperature/weather, HVAC settings, terrain etc into account to explain the observations youre seeing.

+1 yes, the Taycan has two speeds so that it can both accelerate like a Porsche owner expects, and hit autobahn limits. it shifts around 50.

Prediction... two speed transmissions will make a comeback in EVs. You can achieve really high launch torque at the wheels... which is fun :) and bragging rights top end speed without needing the motor to spin at 20K RPM

Unrelated, but I drive like a mad man on the freeways because it's just too much fun driving the Mach E. I did a drive from Austin, TX to Houston, TX last night and got home with 2 miles to spare. I was going to be real embarrassed if my car died before I got to my driveway.

This would be cool for performance EVs. Mass-market EVs should focus on de-contenting so that they can make the price points for lower income families. ??
