We are so sick of the software on this stupid car. If it hadn't lost $40K in value since we bought it, I'd trade it in for another Lexus or Toyota. Really, this software is so inconsistent, and poorly laid out why bother with updates? it only changes things and breaks things. My 2013 Rav4 EV was much better. I am really starting to hate this car. It is definitely not compatible with two drivers. PAAK stopped working, then sort of started again. It sometimes takes several minutes of dicking with the screen to get it to even connect to the phone. It seems now we have to stop the car, shut it off, open the door, and then restart and it will connect. Who wrote this shit software, Microshaft? Is it running windblows? FFS. When this car got rear ended I prayed they would total it. No such luck. I'm stuck with this stupid car and to make it worse, Ford keeps sending me emails that they want to buy it for $20K and the dealer keeps sending me offers for a new 2024. FK you ford. I put $20K down on this thing and it is lost. what a waste of money. Otherwise, other than the creeky rear end, the car is fine. Just the software sucks ass.

Feel better now?

Yes the software is pretty terrible, though admittedly, my experience has not been that bad. Very sorry you are hating the car because of it.

Only hope, slim as it is, is to wait for (another) major update.

Car companies are not software companies. And for decades they did not have to be. Maybe try driving an ID.4 with the launch software to feel better by comparison.

Oh and maybe reach out to Ford corporate?

I rarely chime in on threads that have anything to do with software since I don’t really use it. At least I don’t think so to the extent others probably do. However thought I would give my view even though I am probably in the minority.

I drive this car like any other car I’ve owned. I’m interested in the suspension, tires, handling, comfort, quietness, audio system and utility. If something doesn’t work correctly with the software, either I don’t know about it or it doesn’t have anything to do with the above items so could care less.

The only real interaction I have with Sync is Apple CarPlay which has worked, for the most part, flawlessly for over 50K miles I have driven Mach-E’s. When it had a hiccup last year, it was no big deal as I’ve had the same hiccups in my ICE cars with CarPlay.

I have no user profile setup. I have no charging destinations set up. I don’t even have any idea how those two would benefit me. I’m the only one that drives the car so seats, mirrors, etc. never change. 99% of my charging is at home using excess solar power and my Emporia app controls that. I plug it in, the car charges. I’ve never set departure times (don’t know why I would do that) and I never look at or keep track of the vehicles efficiency. When the battery gets low, I charge it up. When I do happen to DCFC, I plug in to an EA or Tesla SuperCharger and I have both set up to start charging without touching my car or the phone. I am rarely on multi-lane highways and when I am, I never use BlueCruise.

When I got the car, I set up the vehicle settings to my liking including drive mode and have never changed them. Don’t see a need to. I do all my own updates with FDRS and have been very happy with the simplicity of the system.

While I have the FordPass app on my phone, I never use it. I have Siri Shortcuts set up to start, stop, unlock, lock, check tire pressure, battery level, range, location, etc, etc and don’t even need my phone for that. I use my watch and just ask Siri.

I’ve had quite a few members here at my home for one reason or another working on their Mach-E’s (mechanical mods) and all of them have asked me about certain software settings that I knew nothing about and they were surprised I knew so little about Sync. I drive this car and that’s all I care about.

Just curious - since you don’t use PAAK, do you carry a fob?

Yes, I almost always carry the fob. I say almost because sometimes I forget it by mistake but PAAK has always worked the few times I didn't have the fob. I did have to set up PAAK so I can use all of the FordPass functions in my Siri Shortcuts.

I mean you aren’t wrong. The software is pretty horrible and in the early days they would 100% break something new with every update lol. The interface was laggy from day one, usually it takes a few major software upgrades to overload system resources. There’s really no excuse for that one.

I’m not sure you can really compare it to Toyota though. They definitely not known for cutting edge technology, but that's why they excel at reliability.

While I have experienced things that have been frustrating and annoying from time to time with the software, my experience isn't even remotely close to yours. Speaking on software alone, there is nothing that would make me want to go back to my previous 2019 Honda Insight.

Now... would I REALLY REALLY LIKE it if that dang song info was shown on the instrument cluster like the Insight was instead of having to look over and down in the MME? Well yes, yes I would, but not going scorched earth over it.

Honestly, I just haven't experienced some of those complaints you shared on any sort of regular basis. While you shouldn't have to, may be worth the old tech support 101 and reset everything to factory and set it back up one by one to see if it resolves those issues.

Yeah this one is a mix for me. I definitely agree that the native software isn't amazing. It's only more obvious when Ford went the completely ridiculous route of eliminating almost all buttons.

That said, PaaK has only ever "failed" me once in almost two years where I had to use the backup code, which isn't really rant worthy. It does sometimes take a few extra button presses, but I think people blame the car when it is just as likely their phone. Almost any time where PaaK was slow, I found that grabbing my phone and unlocking it resolved it 99% of the time. I think in some cases my phone may just be lazy in the moment and it isn't always the car.

Given the wide range of results people get from PaaK, I am pretty confident phone is the cause more often than car, as many, including me, seem to have a nearly perfect experience with it and others like OP seem to believe it to be almost unusable. Since the cars are essentially the same, the logical next step is the phone itself.

The rest of the software I don't worry about much, like others I use CarPlay (or Android Auto if that's your thing) and it works just fine there. It is sometimes a bit clunky if it connects to my wife's phone and I try to switch it to mine, but I have run into that with every car of every make.

OP loses a lot of complaint points talking about an 11 year old Toyota though. The "software" involved there is like complaining about how much your laptop is a headache compared to your old single line solar powered calculator. They aren't even comparable and I am not making an excuse for Ford here, just not sure how this is even something you bring up.

You couldn't pay me to drive ICE again, let alone a Toyota. The MME isn't perfect, but there are lots of simple things you can do to make it a LOT better.

If PAAK doesn't work, don't use it! Your car came with two key fobs. Link them to your profiles, and go drive your car!
