Anyone else scared to update their Mach-e after reaching 36K miles?

It seems like every time I get an update something else breaks and now that I am over 36K miles, I have to pay Ford to fix these random issues. :/

As much money as you likely invested in purchasing the MME as an early adopter, why is it not a bad idea to throw a bit more out there and get a cheap extended warranty from Granger or one of the others?
I seem to remember that you can’t buy the Ford extended warranty after your standard warranty expires, but I could be mistaken.

I would *imagine* if an issue is a direct result of a software update bug, there would be some recourse.

It's probably buried somewhere in the EULA.

The other aspect to this is - how long will Ford publish software updates after manufacturing date, and if there are updates available but no longer pushed, will there be a way to purchase them (I assume an EV tech's time, or FDRS.)

I would be interested in what exactly you are referring to? I have read many posts where people have had issues with settings being changed and there have been some problems it appears that were then cleared up with a subsequent OTA. I have not read of many where owners have had to go in for repairs due to an OTA. I have not had any issues to date but one of the good things about the forum is it gives you information about what to look out for.

You can, but I think there is an inspection required to make sure there is nothing already wrong with the vehicle.

Someone on this forum commented that once their warranty ends, they are turning off auto-updates.

This has happened several times throughout my two year ownership. Things such as: stereo not working unless I unplug the battery for 30 seconds. Doors not auto unlocking when I approach. Car alarm going off if car is locked but someone opens a door (yes, door opened when it was supposed to be locked). Each time I would have to take my car in and leave for at least 1-2 days.
recently, I had a door sensor fault show up right after an update. Brought it in to be fixed but odd it showed up just after an update.

Thanks - those do seem odd.

I turned off auto-update months ago

up to 40k and 40 months. Granted it's pricier after 36k and even more after 40k but it can be bought. These powerups arn't really breaking things so much as they don't work the same (or sometimes) for months. (Yes I'm pointing directly at the L2 charge issue).

It's a legit concern even on a small scale, and something I hadn't thought about in relation to this car. I worked for a consumer electronics manufacturer that produced a device that rarely rebooted. After a long gap they pushed a new firmware update that forced a reboot. This caused a large portion of devices (IIRC ~10%) to brick because a rarely used sensor that wasn't queried during normal use was queried during the boot sequence. The 10% of devices had failed sensors, and bricked because the firmware refused to proceed with the boot if the sensor didn't respond to the boot query. Most of the failed devices were past the 1 yr warranty and I believe at best the people got a 50% off coupon toward a new device.

I bought a Ford extended for my truck after the standard warranty expired. It was a little pricier than at new but it was still not bad. I time expired, not mileage.

Regarding my MME, I’m just getting rid of it albeit at a huge hit. I have 53K on my 2021 and with all the issues I’ve had with no end in sight, I just don’t see it being a good after warranty car.
