There is another thread where an owner questioned whether CarPlay could be causing issues with PAAK. My PAAK has been more reliable since deactivating CarPlay. Last night, I activated CarPlay again (and updated the PASS app) and this morning, when I walked up to the car (app running, phone in hand) NOTHING. Just saying...
PAAK uses bluetooth and CarPlay uses Wi-Fi, shouldnt be an issue, I use both flawlessly since i got the car over a year ago.

The issue could very well be on the phone (iOS) side, but I can easily replicate PAAK working pretty reliably with CarPlay deactivated and immediately becoming unreliable when CarPlay is activated. I have the iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 15.6.1 (latest). Issue also occurs with iPhone SE v3 running iOS 16 beta. I even wiped the 12 Pro and setup as a new phone with Ford Pass being the only non-stock app installed and no go.
Hmmm i used a zoomed display and my start button is much larger

So far I'm not seeing any improved behavior of PAAK and welcome lights flashing on approach. For me it's still a pretty consistent 3-5 seconds while I'm standing at the car door before it recognizes PAAK. If I take my phone out of my pocket and unlock it while I'm walking up to the car, it seems to improve the timing. But that's a crappy workaround IMHO.

Btw, the Carplay theory is interesting. I probably won't test it because wireless Carplay is too important for me. So again I don't think this is a reasonable workaround.

You must have a different definition of “flawlessly” than most of us lol.
While both those feature are perfectly usable they are far from flawless.

It says improved Setup not improved usability.

Back to the update, what did ford manage to break with this update? Haha

I believe wireless Carplay uses bluetooth as well as wifi.

CarPlay disables Bluetooth from connecting to the car, so you can’t connect via Bluetooth to the car while it’s active. This is why CarPlay can cause issues. They prioritize CarPlay connecting for media because the car or iPhone seems to not want to connect to CarPlay once Bluetooth is established as the media source. I’m sure Bluetooth can still be used for other purposes from the phone, as my watch stays connected, but it probably causes some very finicky behavior.

If wireless carplay is the culprit that should be an EASY sacrifice.

I use wired exclusively, phone doesn't get super hot (iphone 13), no audio lag, charges my phone too, and best of all it works every single time.

IT HELP ME!!!

Question: The last 2 months my "Bluetooth Connection" is not connected (on Ford Pass) and hence no PAAK. I have to "close" the app (swipe it up) and then open it, wait a second and the Bluetooth is connected again and fully functional.

However, when I go to my Bluetooth "settings tab" in IOS it says my Mach E is "connected" when the FP says it is "disconnected". My phone automatically updates FP, looks like 4.20 downloaded yesterday. But no change in the App.

My phone is "out of storage"; could that be playing into this? Any help from the tech community would be appreciated. I'm a big user of PAAK on the weekends and having to close the app and open again in the way to the car is a PIA!!!

Also why do only some of us get a Frunk Button? I Want.

If you have a job 1 car, those built before July (roughly) 2021, you do not yet have a Frunk button, either on FP or in the car. On those cars your only way to open the Frunk is to double pull the handle. You might see that feature added late this year.

It uses Bluetooth to establish the connection, then hands it off to WiFi.
Yeah. And it would support the theory that the initial CarPlay Bluetooth connection is interfering with the performance of the PAAK Bluetooth connection, possibly delaying it by several seconds (like many of us are experiencing). I’ve never tested this but I could believe it.

Well, my initial experience with PaaK and FP 4.20.0 was an outlier, it seems. Today I needed to shut down and reopen FP in order to get PaaK to start the car.

Is it just me or does it seem like each time they update the app works great for several days to a week, sometimes longer and then it just craps out. Almost like the installation replaces some logging file that fills up over time and makes the app not function anymore.
This last update .19 works great for me. PAAK was flawless, and I stopped getting No Key detected error message but a few days ago that started back up and I would be willing to bet for the next week mine will work flawlessly.
Not just you.

Jesus Ford, it's 2022 for Pete's sake. Is it really so hard to make an app that works? I've said it a thousand times: outsource your software development to, oh, I don't know, a software company?!

You can get the frunk release to work from the door keypad if you can flash the latest updates to the BCM and GFM modules with FDRS. The button in the display can be enabled with a change in FORScan, documented here. Still nothing in the app though...

My No Key Detected is at an acceptably low rate, but the number of times I have to wait several seconds in order for the car to “wake up” to open a door remains unacceptably high. I cannot recreate what the issue might be. That would take repeated and deliberate testing in a controlled environment and I don’t have the time or tools to do that. I’m just a guy with a busy life trying to use my car. Fortunately Ford has people they pay to fix this stuff. Unfortunately….
